At Penguin Random House UK, we are at an exciting milestone on our Cloud Transformation journey. To support us on this journey we are recruiting a Lead Cloud Platform Engineer to join our newly established Cloud Platforms team. We are at the point of building out all the critical foundations of a new multi-cloud platform and embarking on a significant migration and transformation programme. As our Lead Cloud Platform Engineer, you will work in collaboration with the Cloud Business Office and key business stakeholders to develop, implement, optimise, and maintain cloud-based solutions. You'll embrace DevOps and understand the benefits of repeatable patterns, automation, and self-service capabilities. Operating within the Cloud Platform Engineering Team, our Lead Cloud Platform Engineer will provide the enterprise standards as self-service capabilities that enable development teams to meet governance requirements while accelerating adoption. You'll identify the most optimal cloud-based solutions for our colleagues and business partners and maintain our cloud platforms in alignment with our cloud tenets. You'll have excellent troubleshooting skills, enjoy educating teams on new cloud initiatives, and relish working as part of an agile and collaborative team. You'll have extensive experience operating public cloud platforms and will be comfortable developing and reviewing artifacts written in collaboration with business and project teams. You'll own the design and refinement pipeline patterns using GitLab, or similar, and will promote the benefits and best practices for DevSecOps. You'll relish the challenge to raise the technical training bar, and to achieve this you will be provided dedicated time each week to learn new skills, obtain certifications and increase your exposure to new services and technologies. You will become a key contributor to enhancing our delivery of new business technology products and services, and to the overall success of Penguin Random House UK through the delivery of an exemplary technology capability. To achieve this, you will: Own the responsibility for developing and supporting the landing zones across our public cloud platforms. Design new and enhance existing patterns for cloud products and services within the enterprise service catalogue. Promote the cloud platform tenets around the business and showcase the benefits of Agile working patterns to project teams and business partners. Play an active role in mentoring colleagues and team members, and lead knowledge sharing sessions for internal colleagues and conferences. Build artifacts which support the entire lifecycle of a cloud product. Design GitLab pipelines for promoting agile working patterns in Dev and UAT, and also automated deployments with security guardrails and remediations into production. Understand the benefits and use-cases for IaaS, Paas, SaaS etc. when working with the business to develop new cloud products and services. Work alongside business partners across identity management, infrastructure and security to integrate capabilities for use across the portfolio (such as unified authentication and interoperability with on-prem services). Understand the various monitoring metrics across operations, finance and environmental (carbon emissions) and ensure the operational services meet contractual SLAs and KPIs. Ensure public cloud services adhere to best practice frameworks including the Microsoft Cloud Architecture Framework and AWS Well Architected Framework. Stay current with developments in emerging Azure and AWS trends and innovations and support the deployment of emerging services into our customer environments. Working closely with the application delivery teams to seek continual service improvement opportunities. Technical Experience and Qualifications: You have extensive experience designing for and operating at least one public cloud platform (AWS/Azure) You are certified to a minimum of Associate level on at least AWS or Azure You have experience working in an Agile team and understand the Scrum cycle You have strong knowledge of operating Windows & Linux infrastructures You have demonstrable experience in designing and building fault-tolerant, scalable, and secure systems You have demonstrable experience writing code artifacts in at least two of the following languages: Python YAML/JSON Terraform (HCL) PowerShell JavaScript TypeScript You have worked efficiently with continuous integration/continuous deployment pipelines (CI/CD) using Terraform, Jenkins, Ansible and GitLab Experience with all aspects of cloud service models and application delivery such as PaaS, Serverless and Containerized infrastructure (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes (ECS, EKS, Fargate etc.)) Infrastructure-as-Code capabilities and governance Experience designing and implementing networking components (VPCs, Security Groups, VPNs, Transit Gateways etc) Experience with observability capability and logging/monitoring Experience with providing self-service access to cloud technologies We're currently experimenting with hybrid working and involving colleagues across the business to shape our future ways of working.
