The role of the Solution Architect to ensure that projects requiring new or changes to existing IT systems can be delivered successfully (ie pragmatic trade-off decisions are taken to create solutions that balance the needs of the business with the resources available, align with business and technology strategies, maintain a compelling business case, and do not breach risk appetite).

This primarily involves:

1) Creating architectural artefacts that enable IT project stakeholders (both business and technical) to understand the business and technical landscape so that they have the level of understanding required to make informed decisions needed to deliver the project successfully (ie optimise project execution)

2) Creating and maintaining design documentation that accurately reflect the project design decisions taken by the project stakeholders (in accordance with their powers of delegated responsibility) to enable delivery teams to efficiently build and change IT systems and solutions

The Solution Architect role focuses on the IT systems that are used to support the back, front and middle office domains of the business.

* Analysing and synthesising business motivations (goals and objectives), functional and non-functional requirements and stakeholder concerns

* Analysing and synthesising technology strategy, principles, roadmaps, standards and patterns/templates

* Identifying and articulating dependencies, constraints, risks and opportunities associated with IT projects

* Identifying / framing decisions that need to be made and clarifying what really matters

* Generating options and exploring the consequences of different courses of action in conjunction with impacted stakeholders, including conducting impact analyses

* Seeking stakeholder input to weigh trades-offs and recommend a preferred course of action

* Consolidating design decision into clearly articulated design documents, models and other design artefacts

* Gaining stakeholder support for solution designs, including design authority endorsement and sign-off

* Governing the implementation of signed-off solution designs

* Maintaining architecture and design documents and artefacts as the contextual environment continues to evolve

* Harvesting 'good practice' project design artefacts that can be genericised for reuse as design patterns/templates for subsequent follow on projects

* Horizon-scan to ensure Sthree maintains awareness of trends in relevant technology markets and the implications for Sthree are well understood

* Maintain good relationships with technology partners, vendors, and service providers

* Ability to successfully address business problems by designing pragmatic solutions

* Ability to stay abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies to identify threats and opportunities

* Ability to govern the pragmatic implementation of solution designs

Communication:

* Ability to listen to and empathise with project stakeholders

* Ability to instil confidence in project stakeholders

* Ability to distil complex decisions into their core arguments and guide stakeholders through challenging decision-making processes

Leadership:

* Excellent leadership skills

* Advanced understanding of best practice frameworks and how to apply them pragmatically

* Ability to educate and embed best practice and mentor tech teams

Technical:

* Broad (or be able to rapidly gain) an understanding of technologies relevant to the recruitment industry

* Broad understanding of modern computing with an emphasis on Cloud Services for both applications and infrastructure

* Good grasp bespoke application development and best practices for implementing commercial technology products and services
