We currently have a live requirement available for a Configuration Manager working for a defence client. It's an initial 6 month contract with Hybrid working based in Basingstoke. An active SC clearance is required as a minimum for the position.

The Configuration Management SME will facilitate the engineering teams to build robust and stable systems by defining a Configuration Management Plan and a clear set of configuration management processes (including version control) underpinned by appropriate tooling. This configuration management approach will be fully aligned with existing release management practises to ensure the test and production environments have an auditable laydown that can be related back to engineering configuration items.

The Configuration Management SME will be responsible for ensuring appropriate processes and procedures are designed and implemented as per the Configuration Management Plan across all engineering elements within the service (inclusive of hardware, operating system, security and applications). At all stages, this approach and implementation will be done in consultation and agreement with the Service team who operate the day to day release management processes.

The Configuration Management SME will:

*Define a configuration management plan in timelines aligned to the programme delivery plan

*Establish a clear set of configuration management policies/processes, track compliance and resolve / escalate any compliance issues

*Work with the service and engineering teams to implement the agreed processes within the configuration management and associated service tooling (Jira, GitLab, Excel, Service Manager)

*Work with engineering and service to establish the configuration baseline, version control and release management processes so that the deployed environment baselines can be monitored and gaps remediated

*Define the necessary tooling approach to Config management across all of the engineering teams from simple static capture of configs via excel through to modern CI/CD techniques, implementing an MVP that provides initial configuration management discipline ready for service commencement

*Support the Configuration Management PM in getting agreement from the engineering and service teams to commit to implementation timelines for the deployment of the CMS

*Define an approach to facilitating Configuration Management audits

*Educate and mentor Engineering teams to embed the necessary configuration management discipline within engineering delivery

The successful candidate for this role must be able to demonstrate experience of:

*Deriving Config and Release management requirements working with Engineering and Service teams

*Rapid review and assessment of engineering delivery & release management across varied apps and infrastructure to inform the Configuration Management Plan

*Authoring and maintaining the Configuration Management Plan

*Implementing CM on a range of technologies from legacy infrastructure through to modern application CI/CD toolchain pipelines

*In-depth knowledge of at least one CM toolset technology with a proven ability to apply this knowledge to other toolsets within short timescales (ideally GitLab though not mandatory)

*The implementation and rollout of new/revised configuration management processes to engineering with associated supporting and coaching of engineering and service team members
