Job Description

The Planning Inspectorate has a long and proud history in ensuring a fair planning system by acting as the main appellate body for planning decisions in England and Wales. The judgements and decisions made by planning inspectors have a significant impact on the economy, people's lives and the communities in which they live. The Digital Services team is expanding to meet the growing demands from our colleagues, government and our customers and we're recruiting to increase both our capacity and capability to meet those demands and to provide outstanding digital, data and technology services. This role is a business critical, high profile role and we are seeking a dynamic, motivated and inspirational individual to be part of our team during this exciting time.

Responsibilities:

Manage the development and operation of applications including but not limited to; internal casework management systems, public facing web-sites and other internal systems covering production and non-production environments.

Manage and maintain the operational status of applications in both production and non-production environments.

Manage and maintain automation and workflow rules and processes to ensure they continue to meet expectations.

Manage the ongoing running of the continuous integration/continuous delivery DevOps pipelines and the management and protection of releases through Development, Pre-Production and Production environments across the digital estate.

Transform technical requirements into DevOps processes.

Take ownership of problems and proactively resolve technical problems relating to systems.

Understand and identify problems, analysing and helping to identify the appropriate solution.

Classify and prioritise problems, document their causes and implement remedies.

Maintain effective monitoring of services and respond to alerts affecting service delivery.

Identify opportunities for process improvement in line with DevOps principles and take ownership of the delivery of these improvements.

Promote the delivery of excellent customer service within teams.

Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Build effective and supportive relationships within teams, across the Inspectorate and with stakeholders. Work together with others to assist the delivery of organisational strategic objectives.

Share process improvements and efficiency ideas and solutions to enhance team and organisational performance.

Essential Experience

Experience of building infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (preferably Terraform).

Demonstrable experience building and maintaining CI/CD Pipelines (preferably using Azure).

A comprehensive understanding of delivering applications to cloud based infrastructure (preferably using Azure).

An understanding of DevOps principles and processes.

Experience of agile development, continuous integration, and version control (preferably GitHub).
