Our reward package

We're looking for an exceptional Senior Software Developer (MetDB Team) to help us make a difference to our planet. These roles are based at our Exeter HQ with hybrid remote working.

As our Senior Software Developer, your total reward package is potentially worth up to £46536.00 annually, which includes basic salary, RRA, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Your starting salary will be £30932.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £33925.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

You will receive a Recruitment Retention Allowance (RRA) of £2500.00 per annum paid quarterly, pro-rated from the date of taking up the appointment This role will qualify for an RRA allowance from 1st April 2022 to 31st March 2024

Job Purpose

As part of the MetDB Team your role will be to support and develop systems that provide real-time data to operational Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP), products and research, contributing to the delivery of exceptional science, technology and operations.

MetDB is the central store of nearly 200 observation types from land, marine, aircraft, satellite, RADAR and more, storing over 380 million observations a day in a variety of binary formats.

You'll be joining a small DevOps team that monitors, supports and develops the MetDB, working with other teams across the Met Office to deliver new data types, improve performance and resilience, identify issues in production and provide user support.

We work on Linux systems often using Python and Fortran but we're looking for candidates willing to turn their hand to any language that is suitable for the job.

1. Experience of analysis and design concepts and techniques;

2. Knowledge of agile methodologies;

3. An understanding of code version-control systems (Git etc.).
