We have a brand-new opportunity for an Assistant Spatial Data Analyst to join our innovative cycling and walking team. This role has been put in place to add insight to future projects by using a variety of analytical tools, techniques and methods to ensure that live data can be utilised interactively. Your passion for data will help to grow our spatial data and provide a complete picture of the West Midlands Combined Authority Network.
This is a brilliant entry level role that would be suited to someone who wants to kick start their career in data analysis. It will be your responsibility to help to manage the cycling and walking data, map routes, update dashboards, monitor spatial data, procure data from suppliers and undertake quality of data analysis.
This is a fixed term contract until 31st October 2023.
What you will be doing
Utilise key data sets that will inform transport system performance monitoring
Assist in the maintenance of a central intelligence hub and data library
Become a specialist in the analysis of spatial and geo-referenced datasets, seeking to correlate and integrate these with other secondary and primary data sources
Produce maps and web maps and provide regular dashboard reports to various Management Boards and Committees
Assist in the development and application of new data management
Obtain data to support current and future transport strategies including the Strategic Transport Plan, the Freight Strategy, Midlands Connect and West Midlands Rail
Continually review intelligence requirements and propose actions to fill gaps in knowledge
Actively promote the data analysis work undertaken through events, blog posts and social media
Cycling & walking play a key role in creating a sustainable transport network that meets the travel needs of local businesses and communities - connecting people to opportunities and improving choice, convenience, affordability and safety across the West Midlands for all citizens.
Our aim is to make the whole of the West Midlands better connected and more prosperous by creating attractive urban environments in city and town centres, along key transport corridors and within our suburbs, to position cycling and walking as the optimal travel choices for transport and for leisure. The West Midlands cycling and walking network will see significant investment over the next few years and will benefit from historic levels of funding, helping to create a place that is fit for the future, safe, green and connected. Our ambitious plans include improved infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as delivering supporting activities such as training and campaigns.
About you
You will be a data savvy individual and an intermediate Excel user who has knowledge of GIS/QGIS and is eager to get stuck into a data analysis role.
It is essential that you have experience in data capture, management of complex datasets, developing web-based mapping solutions, collecting and validating intelligence and assessing the credibility of information.
Being an analytical thinker will come naturally to you and you will have a flair for problem solving, with a strong attention to detail.
It would be desirable if you had knowledge of the BS7666 standard and knowledge of IT service management. Knowledge of Tableau desktop and familiarity with Mapbox APIs would be advantageous.
