Overall Purpose Of The Role:

Overall purpose of the role The Business Partner Manager (BPM) proactively serves as a "trusted advisor" and is the primary IT point of contact to senior managers within their respective business domain(s). The BPM is accountable for the management, direction, control and assurance of end to end IT services for their relevant business domain(s) ensuring that IT initiatives and deliverables contribute, support and add value to business strategies and objectives.

The purpose of the role is to evolve culture, build strategic partnerships and drive business value through the use of information and technology. Scope of role The BPM partners with leaders of their respective business area(s) to stimulate, surface, and shape demand for IT solutions. The BPM utilises a deep understanding of both the respective business domain and technology in order to drive innovation and shape demand initiatives for technology that increases business value.

The BPM ensures that the relevant business domain's strategy and key performance indicators are identified and leveraged for effective IT demand shaping. The BPM also works closely with cross-functional delivery teams, assures the delivery of information technology solutions that generate business value and confirms that the results are measured and communicated.

Major accountabilities of role (6-10 short statements) Approx % of time spent in role

1. Act as the principal technology advocate to assigned business unit(s) as a champion for identifying, leading and driving information technology transformation. Bring outside-in or fresh perspectives into the organisation by routinely meeting with end customers/consumers, industry peers, and other external sources. 10%
2. Work collaboratively with the Business to evaluate the value of new business technical requirements by showcasing the ‘art of the possible' via prototypes, "proof of concept" initiatives and vendor demonstrations. 5%
3. Maintain a close relationship with the business to understand and influence its strategy, processes, plans and needs. Coach business partners and enable them to articulate the technology needs and requirements in their function that will advance business performance. 15%
4. Act as the business change entry point for all IT requirements within the respective business domain(s) and manage the initiative pipeline prioritisation ensuring alignment to corporate strategy. 20%
5. Partner with business unit or function leaders on pre-project ideation. Partner with business and IT leaders to evaluate proposals, build business cases, plan new joint initiatives and determine how they fit into business capability roadmaps and priorities. 20%

6. Assure solution and project delivery by working with Project Managers and Business Analysts to ensure that essential business requirements are understood, captured and reflected appropriately and that business benefits are appropriately identified and delivered.. 10%
7. Liaise with the business and architects to develop multi-year IT solution and business capability roadmaps. Ensure delivery of new technology solutions and capabilities in accordance with the roadmap and ensure that they meet established objectives and expectations of business partners 10%
8. Ensure that project/programme managers and IT staff assigned to projects are knowledgeable about the business unit or function, business partner(s), and their objectives. 5%
9. Proactively identify business capability and IT service/capability gaps and ensure continuous improvement in value optimisation, IT performance and business processes where applicable. 5%

Experience and capability requirements Knowledge/experience:

Significant demonstrable track record of delivering/creating technology solutions to solve business problems.
Experience in acting as the technology broker / interface / champion for delivery of solutions to the business.
Experience in consultative and advisory approaches with business stakeholders in order to introduce new capabilities.
Portfolio management and experience of managing senior business owners and advising on business prioritisation.
Experience of contract and commercial management including letting of contracts.
Water / Utility or regulated sector industry knowledge and experience (preferable).
Qualifications: Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience - essential
Relevant domain qualifications such as - Value and Portfolio Management (MoP, MoV, ValT), BRM, ITIL, Prince 2 - desirable Capability:
Proficient at communicating technology strategies, policies and complex technical issues to both business and technical audiences.
Comfortable managing a senior set of business stakeholders.
Ability to listen, build rapport, and credibility as a strategic partner vertically within the business unit or function, as well as with leadership and functional teams.
Able to influence and motivate others using personal rather than positional power.
Understands the IT industry, e.g. emerging technologies and trends, industry standards, solution architecture, and the vendor landscape.
Ability to set expectations with business colleagues and effectively leverage governance for a positive business partner experience.
Strong collaboration, teamwork and relationship building skills across multiple levels and functions in the organisation.
Ability to identify and develop proposals / opportunities for business improvements in relevant business area.
Requires travel to various sites within Southern Water.
