It's an exciting time to join us!

Big ambitions. Big investment. Big changes. We've a lot to offer IT, analytics and project management professionals. We've already grown tenfold in the past couple of years. Now we're beginning a £106 million transformation programme - and we can't wait for what comes next, as part of an evolution so huge it'll change the way we do things forever. There's a buzz across our business. And IT, analytics and projects are at the heart of it all.

There aren't many teams who can say their work is critical to the nation. But it's something we take huge pride in. And it's why we're migrating to leading technology, upgrading networks, replacing vital infrastructure... and more. Helping us shape an IT, analytics and project function that's fit for the future, you'll need an appetite for change and bags of ideas. Our people walk the talk too - driven by a passion to improve our communities and environment.

Overview of your role:

As our Senior SolarWinds & Monitoring Engineer, you will join us on our super exciting IT transformation journey.

The purpose of the role is to maintain the health of our monitoring systems. In doing so, you will ensure that the monitoring is measured, implemented and reported across the IT Services estate to provide visibility and confidence of our systems. This is a new role, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to demonstrate that we have eyes on the data behind the services systems which underpin the health of the services Southern Water provide to their customers.

Southern Water is entering a new era, and there are not many companies taking on the amount of change that we are delivering and using the type of technologies we're using. This is an opportunity to get involved early in the development and shape the future rather than conforming to the status-quo.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Design the monitoring roadmap for Southern Water (Monitoring protocols and principles WMI,
  • SNMP, WinRM, Polling vs Event-based monitoring etc.))
  • Responsible for operational BAU for SolarWinds Orion & Grafana Platforms
  • Maintain, patch and keep the platform up to date and in good health, understanding and navigating through the platform
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues with responsibility for the resolution through 2nd & 3rd line support for all Solarwinds related issues
  • Liaise with internal governance and the relevant external authorities in order to ensure that we are moving towards an approved compliant infrastructure.
  • Produce and maintain operations manuals/run books for the associated services for this team in line with corporate standards
  • SWQL and SQL queries knowledge

About you:

You will be familiar with many different toolsets, specifically, SolarWinds Orion as this is our main tool across the estate for networks, server infrastructure and applications. Other tools we use are LogRythm, CloudIQ, DP Advisor, Vipr SRM and some bespoke scripting. Experience in analysing (and reporting) collected data that illustrate data trends, to keep ahead of systems' limits and thresholds, is also paramount to this role. You will be a good team player, self-starter, innovative and a monitoring expert with a strong infrastructure and networking background.

Your benefits will include:

  • Company and performance-related bonus
  • Generous pension with up to 11% company contribution
  • Life assurance payment equal to four times your annual salary
  • Health benefits through a Cash Plan
  • Free onsite carpark
  • Canteen onsite
  • Two paid community volunteering days a year
  • 25 days annual holiday
  • Occupational health service
  • Perkbox benefits offering discounts and savings on several products and experiences
  • Study support may be available for job-related qualifications
  • We offer competitive maternity leave and flexible return to work options
