Airbus now have a new vacancy for a Senior Hardware Engineer within the Airbus Defence & Space team in Newport. The successful applicant will join our Cyber Security Hardware Engineering department, reporting directly to the Head of Hardware Engineering, carrying out allocated electronics hardware design work packages.

You will lead all aspects of specifying, performing and detailing electronics hardware design for allocated elements of the product design architecture. This will involve specifying hardware architectures and solutions to problem statements, performing in-house electronics design and work of team members.

You will be responsible for resolving clearly defined problem statements into design solutions, typically up to 6 months in duration.

This role is based at our Airbus Defence and Space offices in Newport, South Wales, and involves working within the UK Defence industry, requiring the applicant to be able to be security cleared to a UK SC level.

Tasks & Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, integrate and test electronics hardware, with all supporting documents are produced in accordance with Airbus standards
  • Ensuring appropriate processes, tools and methodologies are used to design and deliver allocated electronics hardware development work packages
  • Understanding the cost/benefits of design possibilities, enabling appropriate judgement calls to be made
  • Secure that electronics hardware development plans can be estimated in detail, and resource requirements can be allocated
  • Provision of technical mentorship to fellow team members in electronics hardware development tools and methodologies
  • Success of both internal and external design reviews and project evaluations throughout the development lifecycle
  • Customer liaison, by representing Airbus on project related technical matters at collaborator meetings

Skills & Experience

  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering
  • Must have an extensive experience of digital design and implementation for data/voice communications equipment using high speed microprocessor, memory, FPGA and CPLD components
  • Proven track record of designing high-speed electronic equipment that is CE compliant with EMC, Safety and RoHS criteria
  • Excellent electronics hardware development knowledge
  • Familiar with high speed digital design standards and techniques
  • Background of understanding requirements capture and work package definition and estimation
  • Experience of schematic capture, PCB layout, thermal analysis for electronic circuits, OrCAD Capture, or OrCAD PCB Designer would all be great to see
