AWE is currently recruiting for High Performance Computing (HPC) System Administrators, Linux Administrators, Storage and Advanced Network Engineers to utilise multiple small development platforms with novel architectures that are routinely used for code porting and research related activities.

High Performance Computing: Working as part of HPC Production Platforms, Advanced Networking & Scientific Linux Support Teams to provide technical support and solutions for the operation and maintenance of a series of HPC Supercomputers, Linux systems and the associated storage and networking infrastructure.

Whilst not to be considered a checklist, we are interested in hearing from candidates who can demonstrate knowledge or experience in several of the following areas:

  • Planning, installation, testing and commissioning of new HPC platform hardware and system software

  • Linux server infrastructure including virtualisation, DNS, DHCP, Git, and other related software

  • Administering Linux systems such as Debian, Centos, Ubuntu or Red Hat

  • Specification and evaluation of future HPC platforms (Systems, Network Infrastructure, Support Infrastructure, Workstations or Storage)

  • Configuration management of HPC platform hardware and software or associated supporting infrastructure, systems, networking and storage

  • Liaising with hardware suppliers and system engineers on the investigation and resolution of problems across the HPC estate

  • Monitoring and reporting on system utilisation and availability, identifying resource contention where necessary

  • Parallel file systems such as SpectrumScale and Lustre

  • Managing and scheduling clusters using tools such as Moab and, Slurm

  • Providing technical advice and support to HPC platform users

  • Communicating details of planned and unplanned service interruptions to the user community

  • Maintaining an awareness of current and future developments in HPC and related technologies

  • Scripting skills, preferably Perl, Python and Bash

  • Web development (HTML5, JavaScript, CSS3)

  • Sound understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP and related protocols and standards

  • Networking in multivendor environments

  • Ability to work independently and unsupervised, as well as within a team

  • Flexible, self-motivated and the ability to handle multiple tasks

  • Ability to provide technical input within own field of expertise that can influence project, team or end user

  • Strong communication skills verbal and written

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role.
