Our reward package

We're hiring for a IT Support Engineer based in Exeter HQ with hybrid remote working.

As our IT Support Engineer, your total reward package is potentially worth up to £36420.00 annually, which includes basic salary, market supplement, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Your starting salary will be £24146.00 and you will have opportunities to progress to £26641.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

In addition you will be paid £2500.00 per annum as a market supplement to reflect the demand for your skills. You will be paid this market driven allowance from April 2022 until March 2024 in your monthly pay whilst performing this role.

Job Purpose

The successful candidate will be joining a small team within the Met Office, focused on helping developers, engineers, scientists and support staff manage the health and well being of the numerous services that make up the Met Office business. Your team will be multi-disciplined and cover the breadth of the Met Office estate, including Cloud based services, as well as on premise systems which range from the supercomputer to a Raspberry Pi. The primary focus of this role will be:

To support and develop a range of services.

To support the Met Office developer/support community, providing help and guidance on how to integrate new systems into our service portfolio and helping troubleshoot/fix problems with existing integrations.

You will be joining this busy team, as we continue to exploit Cloud based services and embrace Agile ways of working. You will be gaining valuable experience, working on a mixture of on premise and Cloud based platforms, helping to develop and operationally support services that span both environments.

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Demonstrate the ability to work as part of a team and when required, to work autonomously.

Have a strong technical background, able to demonstrate the ability to solve, sometimes complex, technical problems.

Demonstrate a drive to develop your skills, with a good understanding of current IT industry trends.

Programming/scripting knowledge or experience preferably using Python.

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of ITIL best practice and using IT Service Management tools such as JIRA/ServiceNow to help manage the team's workload.

Knowledge or experience of Agile ways of working.
