WHAT TO EXPECT

This role will sit in Jaguar Land Rovers highly prized Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) Engineering team. As a Cell Engineer (SVO), you will lead and coordinate the design, development, testing and introduction of new and existing battery cell technologies for SVO battery programmes. The role requires the individual to deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time. The role will also lead the technical content and integrity across specific programmes whilst having an eye on the future.

The role demands strong technical leadership utilising cross functional resource, planning and reporting status and the versatility to deal with changing circumstances both identifying risks and possible solutions to challenging issues.
Clear direction and balancing of attribute trade-offs whilst considering the programme deliverables on quality, cost, weight, function and timing are critical aspects of the role.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

As a Cell Engineer you will be a key driving force behind the cell technology for SVO batteries. You will deliver the commodity plan to quality, cost and time, own and deliver the Engineering Advanced Product Quality Planning deliverables, and manage Change Request, expenditure forecasting and the relevant supplier teams in support of delivery of the programme milestones. You will manage rig test plans, including detailed planning of test and development stages through to sign off and support Engineering test teams with rectification of issues. You will resolve issues with component engineering and vehicle attribute teams to develop designs that meet targets, ensure all appropriate Jaguar Land Rover standards are met through-out design maturation and provide input into new feature development.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

Qualified to at least bachelors degree level in relevant engineering subject
Strong understanding and exposure to physical science, chemistry or engineering discipline relevant to electrochemical cell development and its use in high performance applications.
Excellent understanding and experience developing cell capabilities and maximizing trade-offs for high performance vehicles.
Experience with cell ageing modelling and lifetime prediction
Strong understanding of cell thermal performance analysis and modelling
Hands-on experience of high-power battery cell testing and data analysis
Knowledge of electrode manufacturing, cell assembly and formation processes
Experience in the development of alternative electrolyte systems and a clear understanding of the challenges
Comprehensive understanding of critical battery materials, including key trends and developments
Experience in cell failure mode analysis
Experience developing lithium-ion/lithium metal technology, applying key electrochemical techniques including galvanostatic cycling, voltammetry and EIS to drive improvement and understanding of cell performance
Analytical skills including the ability to conduct complex research into new technologies and manufacturing systems and tools
Ability to effectively explain complex ideas, confidently presenting these to senior stakeholders
Ability to manage project manage to deliver to quality, cost and time.


Desirable:

Experience in scaling cell design and production methods from small scale to pilot prototype is desirable
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills
Understanding of material and electrode characterization, ionic and electronic conductivity analysis and electrode expansion
Understanding of cell manufacturing and of the quality control processes
