The opportunity:
Airbus Defence and Space is now looking for Military Satellite Communications (MilSatCom) Systems Engineers to join our team in either Stevenage or Portsmouth.  Reporting directly to our (Future Military) Team Lead, you will provide the system architecture definition for the pending tender opportunities with either the UK MOD (Skynet 6) or Australian Milsatcom programmes - covering the space, control and ground segments. We see this as a great opportunity to be part of some diversified and future looking programmes. At Airbus Defence and Space we are proud of what we have been able to achieve with a successful industry/military PFI (Skynet 5), setting the standard and establishing what can be done with inter-satellite links, navigation and space-based networks. These are engaged roles within teams directly working the next wave of these technologies. The role:
Our MilSatCom Systems Engineers undertake architecture cost/benefit trade off, covering the spectrum of options from a monolithic geostationary based solution to a fully disaggregated solution, modelled after the US Blackjack concept (for example). This will require understanding a diverse set of technology options, operating both in the space and ground segments.  - Requirements definition - from stakeholder needs through to sub-systems
- System level architectural definition and trade-offs
- Working with Engineering Leads and Partners to define the segment and associated sub-system architectures
- Solution Lead for customer and internal governance reviews
- Technical support to the bid team
- Systems Engineering and project management inputs as required - to support planning, schedule and cost activities
This role will involve some travel for business. About you:
You will be able to demonstrate the following;
- Educated to a degree level (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or related discipline
- Experience in the design, integration and roll out of Military Satellite Communications Systems - covering space, control and ground segments
- Experience of leading engineering teams and engagement with customers and partners
- Good understanding of portfolios in terms of satellite platforms and payloads, satellite control, mission control, network operations and modem capabilities
- Knowledge of military payloads and waveforms
- Experience of defining solutions within an Architectural Framework as part of Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) Not 100% match for the role? No worries! Airbus will support your professional development and invests in your learning journey/continuous learning. You will need to be able to gain UK SC Security Clearance to undertake this role. What Airbus Can Offer You!
- A competitive salary with annual profit share
- An ever growing list of company benefits including enhanced pay for maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental leave
- Very strong, very real career development options across our transnational, market leading company
- A hybrid working pattern of 2 to 3 days per week in the office and 2 to 3 days remotely (delete if not relevant / shift work)
- Flexible hours - 37 per week with no core hours on Friday afternoons!
