The Digital, Data and Technology Services (DDTS) Team is looking for a Principal Infrastructure Architect to join the team, they are the trusted team for digital across the entire Defra Group.
The Principal Infrastructure Architect will work with multiple projects and programmes, providing guidance and analysis, working with other Lead and Principle Technical architects to create and refine roadmaps and blueprints for secure service delivery.
The Principal Infrastructure Architect is the technical authority for on premise technologies (end user devices, application hosting, connectivity, identity) and will work with the Head of function, as well as the various Lead architects, to ensure projects and programmes align with Defra's emerging Enterprise Architecture and its strategic direction. They will work with projects and programmes of all scales to support delivery of end-to-end architectures, and implement designs based on requirements, strategic drivers, best practices, and guidance.
The Principal Infrastructure Architect has the primary responsibility for ensuring that designed solutions are fit for purpose, meet business needs, and are aligned to Defra's strategic direction.

The Principal Infrastructure Architect is:
Someone with an understanding of the technical implications of delivering to both on premise infrastructure and cloud (or hybrid) environments and an understanding of the associated economics will also be required.
Experienced at leading and developing people, to build and establish teams of expertise that deliver value for money and excellent customer service
Comfortable learning new technologies and keeping up to date with industry best-practice.
Able to demonstrate the ability to arbitrate in difficult situations and offer technical architectural support.
Someone with strong hands-on experience and knowledge of at least two technical domains (e.g., hosting, storage, connectivity, identity, digital workplace, including mobile devices) coupled with a broad understanding of the range of technologies available
