As a Lead Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the daily operations of test bed Automation Systems in the Jaguar Land Rover facilities in Whitley and The New Product Development Centre (Churchill).
The systems are primarily AVL Puma 1.5, AVL Puma 2.x and FEV Morphee and includes the use of other tools - application systems, combustion measurement systems, automated calibration tools, simulation tools, etc. The role will be responsible for supporting the daily operation of all the automation systems. This will include issue and error resolution, process improvement, test preparation, documentation, training, routine data quality and functional assessment, specialist disaster recovery support and stakeholder relationships
Working alongside the Automation Systems Development Lead Engineer, you will be responsible for effective operation of the test bed automation systems to deliver timely quality data with the functionality required by the engineering teams. The role will be responsible for system robustness, maintenance of automation uptime and disaster recovery actions in support of the Annual run hours objectives. Formal problem-solving approaches and Continuous Improvement Actions will be routine
The role will supervise a small team of test systems specialists with task and project allocation, progress tracking and reporting. The role will be responsible for the team's objective setting, mentoring and performance reviews.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
As a Lead Automation Engineer, your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include the coordination of activities to ensure timely delivery of appropriate test systems configurations to meet test requirements and maximising uptime, being responsible for ongoing automation systems operations and responsible for daily test systems issues resolution and management. You will be accountable for managing their team to ensure specific targets for quality, cost and time are met in the Whitley test fields.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
The ideal candidate will have a passion for the automotive industry, excellent knowledge of test automation tools and processes and strong project management capabilities with excellent execution skills and the ability to multitask. You will have strong influencing and engagement skills - able to challenge existing thinking in a positive way whilst building credibility and trust through experience and personal style.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential:
In depth knowledge of power train test automation systems
In depth knowledge of associated test bed instrumentation and systems (e.g. combustion systems, INCA, Cameo, emissions systems etc. etc.)
Knowledge of test bed hardware (fuel, coolant, oil, air conditioning systems etc)
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Degree or relevant equivalent experience
Desirable:
Puma and Morphee experience preferred
Demonstrable experience in the operation of power train test facilities
Previous experience of leading the resolution of business, technical and process issues within a project team environment
Project management experience
Excellent negotiation skills
Good problem solving skills
