Excellent opportunity for a dedicated Data Scientist to work in a leading science environment offering exceptional employee benefits.  About Us The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) is one of Europe's largest research organisations and represents one of nine partner organisations forming UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). The vision of UKRI is to ensure the UK maintains its world-leading position in research and innovation through combining world-class facilities with major international collaborations. At the STFC's Central Laser Facility (CLF) we're driving ground-breaking advances in science, technology, and engineering through providing scientists with an unparalleled range of pioneering laser technologies to carry out a broad range of experiments in physics, chemistry and biology. The Octopus Group within the CLF is a national imaging facility pioneering novel microscopy technologies and offering access to a range of leading optical microscopy techniques to academic and industrial collaborators.  About The Role Recent advances in microscopy at CLF Octopus have led to an explosion in the quantity and complexity of data being generated. We have a great opportunity for a skilled data scientist to take the next step in their career and acquire new skills by contributing to the development and deployment of scientific workflows at the CLF's Octopus Microscopy facility.  Working closely with the interdisciplinary core Octopus team, you will be part of a growing cross-department and inter-department scientific computing effort focussed on enabling and delivering world-class pipelines for users of our facilities. Here, you will play an essential role in the development, operation and automation of multiple advanced microscopy workflows in the facility, from data acquisition and management to data analysis and interpretation, including working closely with partners in the STFCs Scientific Computing Department and Scientific Machine Learning groups to deliver new applications and facilitate the greater exploitation of existing scientific compute infrastructures such as an on-site high performance computing and storage clusters. The successful candidate is guaranteed a stimulating work environment with the opportunity to solve cutting-edge scientific problems with immediate real-world impact and to represent the facility at scientific conferences and other national and international forums. About You You will be motivated by the opportunity to apply your existing data science and scientific computing skills to existing CLF Octopus workflows (predominantly Python and C++) and development of new workflows across the range of techniques offered by Octopus. You will have completed a PhD or have equivalent professional experience in a computational or relevant science discipline and a scientific software development/research software engineering background with significant experience in one or more of the following areas: scientific data analysis, algorithm development, data management, high throughput computing and cloud computing. You will strive to deliver high quality science and have a passion for finding solutions to complex, interdisciplinary problems either through applying existing methods and techniques or developing new ones. Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to communicate effectively with stakeholders with diverse academic and subject knowledge background and external facility users. You'll therefore need excellent organisational and planning skills. Employee Benefits: We are offering a permanent position with a salary £39,748 - £44,166 per annum (dependent on skills and experience plus annual role-based allowance of up to £4,000) and a whole host of additional benefits including; 30 days holiday (in addition to bank holidays), an excellent pension scheme, employee shopping/travel discounts, a salary sacrifice cycle to work scheme, plus many more benefits and wellbeing initiatives that enable our employees to have a great work life balance.  UKRI is an Equal Opportunity & Disability Confident Employer.  To Apply Please click APPLY NOW
