Are you an experienced senior developer of cloud native applications? We are looking to rebuild the platform behind the internationally aclaimed London DataStore as a modular system, connected by micro-services. We intend to use a pragmatic combination of adopt (i.e. open-source), build and buy to deliver on the user requirements from our recent detailed discovery exercise.

Working closely with the Product Manager, Delivery Manager, Stakeholder Engagement Officer and other supporting professionals, you will need to take on a managerial role and lead the mixed development team of permanent and temporary in-house staff and agency contractors with all software development tasks. The team will be responsible for designing, testing, and implementing the in-house rebuild. We are looking to make a significant release after 12 months to allows users to migrate from the current SaaS platform and then to rapidly iterate, moving to a smaller permanent team after two years.

This is a high-profile opportunity to provide strategic advice on technical directions and solutions, but you'll need to bring with you experience of:

One or more backend technologies including Elastic Search, Python, Node, Java, Kubernetes

Software architecting, databases (relational and other), APIs and object oriented programming.

Cloud platforms and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)

Front-end technologies including JavaScript, React

Developing ‘in the open' - using tools such as Github

Developing production environments and managing large, complex code bases, including continuous deployment

Agile development and microservice architectures

You'll be in a data science/data engineering team, whilst working closely with staff from a newly established GLA Digital Transformation Unit.

If you enjoy solving technical problems, working with clients and being involved in one of world's leading cities - apply today.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade's Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). GLA staff are hybrid working up to 3 days a week in our offices and remotely depending on their role. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and we are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days' annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan and a career average pension scheme.

Closing date: Sunday 5 June at 23:59 GMT.

Interview date: Friday 17 or Monday 20 June 2022.
