As the Head of Product, you'll be responsible for leading the Product profession in DDaT and working with our teams and stakeholders to continually evolve our departmental roadmap and product strategy. The Head of Product will lead a professions-led people management structure and build on work to establish a more formal product management community, working alongside other Heads of Professions and particularly the Head of Delivery, as part of the Product and Delivery Leadership team in DDaT. There is a significant component of working with Service Owners to understand the future needs of the business and supporting teams to manage activity to validate this direction with users and find the best way to deliver against this. The role includes supporting agile teams across DDaT, including translating from agile to standard departmental ways of working and vice versa.  The Head of Product will also have a key role in facilitating strategic planning across DDaT to deliver against key priorities. Building a strong product management community will be essential to achieving this. The successful candidate will build and maintain a culture of sharing and learning amongst product managers, ensuring the team is the best product management team in a government department and is always improving. The successful candidate will also have moderation responsibilities for the performance and capability assessments of product managers in the community. What we're looking for from you...

At this level, you will: have expert product management skills. be required to coach others to increase professionalism. work with other communities and organisation management to represent community interests. oversee every member of the community, their role, their assignments, development, pay and performance. manage hiring, development, moves and exits from the community, covering civil servants and contractors. line-manage senior product managers. coach leaders outside DDaT in how to apply product thinking to their strategies.
