Our Infrastructure team are recruiting for an SQL Database Administrator to join them on a permanent basis.

In this dynamic role, the successful candidate will become the SQL Server DBA within our Infrastructure Team, providing 3rd line operational support to our entire IT Infrastructure across Penguin Random House UK.

As our new SQL DBA, you will also be working with our current databases, looking at ways to improve the performance and resiliency of these, as well as working with Architects to ensure SQL database platforms are designed in a scalable and resilient manner.

You will work collaboratively with our Backup and Disaster Recovery Specialist to ensure that mission-critical databases are solidly backed up and that our Disaster Recovery facility is ready at any given time.

You'll be joining a collaborative team that are currently working flexibly from home and in our offices based in Colchester and London, so this role will suit someone with a can-do personality with a passion for continuous improvement. This role is an integral part of the infrastructure team, so the ability to work with others in a collaborative way is a must.

About you:

  • You'll have hands on technical expertise in a range of technologies, including Microsoft SQL administration skills.
  • You'll be confident with performance monitoring, troubleshooting and tuning of MS SQL/MySQL Server Installations Database security design and implementation.
  • A good familiarity with, and preferably in-depth technical knowledge of, server platforms: Windows and Unix/Linux.
  • Working knowledge of applications (SOP, ERP, CRM etc) and/or web Content Management Systems.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting database servers.
  • Proven track record of supporting web sites or application databases, as well as underlying infrastructure.
  • Able to demonstrate flexibility and motivation, as well as excellent problem-solving capability and team working.

Salary: Circa £50,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
