Exciting opportunities have arisen within the Digital Services Team at the Scottish Prison Service as we recruit for a Windows Infrastructure Specialist on a full time basis, working 37hours per-week.

As a Microsoft subject matter expert you will be part of our highly technical team that develops and supports the critical infrastructure that powers our 13 prisons, HQ, College and Central stores.  You will take part in exciting infrastructure projects using the latest windows and virtualisation technologies and deploy leading edge services across our Scotland wide estate.  The post holder will collaboratively and creatively to design and develop business critical systems to enhance support as the SPS develops and expands.  Servers administrated include: Windows Servers, Exchange Servers, SharePoint servers, Database servers and application servers. These systems exist both on Premise and on Microsoft 365, with a migration to M365 and cloud hosted services in general ongoing.

Whilst the Digital Services Team are based in Edinburgh Headquarters, this role is open to hybrid working, meaning we won't specify how many days must be worked in the office, but rather based on business needs, expectations and a degree of personal choice. The Digital Services Team

SPS Digital Services are a dynamic team, multi-skilled and multi-tasked. We have a hybrid mix of on-premise legacy systems, cloud hosted O365 Windows and an ambition for delivering unified services in an enterprise wide cloud hosted data infrastructure. We are upskilling our workforce, recruiting those who want to contribute to a wide digital transformation programme which embraces staff and prisons facing technology, accessibility, usability and innovation.

We are providing voice and video call technology and looking to provide these services into individual rooms alongside a self-service portal with access to online services. We are also looking at data warehousing, data analytics and artificial intelligence to support staff decision making and develop a new case management platform to support staff with the prisoner journey.

If you have the following, we would like to hear from you:

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or relevant experience in a large geographically distributed environment

Experience/ exposure of working with Microsoft System Centre suite and other third part management tools

Experience of hands on systems administration in the following areas: Patching, OS deployment, Microsoft Exchange Server 2010/2016/Office 365, Active Directory, Powershell scripting, Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 (detailed knowledge of OS components and server roles such as DFS, DNS, DHCP and SNMP); Hyper-V;.

Experience in designing, developing and implementing business critical systems to drive technology change

Ability to clearly and effectively communicate a variety of issues and build effective working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders

Ability to extract, analyse and interpret complex information to support effective decision making

Ability to forward plan, prioritise and manage competing demands to successfully implement solutions/outputs
