Job Title: Applications Engineer

Location: Portsmouth (Primarily Work From Home)

Salary: £40,000 per year

Job type: Permanent, Full time.

The Role:

Introduction change: We are Southampton based but the role is primarily work from home. This position requires a skilled, motivated technical engineer who is customer focused. The role requires someone with a passion for computer systems engineering and a good working knowledge of the various systems detailed within this job description. The position requires the candidate to be able to work effectively both as part of a team, individually and demonstrate the ability to solve complex problems in a logical, effective and efficient manner.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Providing quick, accurate and professional responses to client support.

Queries/ticket support by both telephone/email and online ticket system.

Design and Implementation of new client solutions.

Maintenance/upgrades of existing client systems and core internal systems.

3rd level support to junior systems engineering team.

Off-site work where required, for example data centre maintenance.

Out of hours on-call assistance on rota basis.

Required Skills:

Excellent working knowledge of Linux system administration.

Good knowledge of Windows system administration.

Virtualisation experience - VMware vSphere / ESXi / vCenter / VSAN.

Strong application knowledge, including: DNS/SQL/SMTP/RADIUS/FTP/HTTP/HTTPS.

Experience applying software security patches and updates at scale.

Basic networking knowledge (LAN / VLAN / BGP / NAT / IP Subnetting).

Desirable Skills:

Encryption, SSL and VPN technologies.

Software firewall experience / Web Application Firewalls.

VoIP technologies.

Experience with VMware Cloud Director / Veeam B&R / Zerto DR.

Some automation/scripting knowledge.

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelors or Master's degree or comparable industry equivalent experience in systems/applications engineering or systems/applications support.

Working Environment:

Normal office environment.

UK Data Center locations.

Occasional travel required to maintenance or customer locations.

Note: The role will primarily consist of home working with some office working and maintenance / customer site visits required.
