Systems Engineer Job Specification The IT Team at Frontier are responsible for the delivery of technology systems, solutions and support across our offices. There are two distinct sub teams within the overall IT Team; the Support Team which consists of a helpdesk function with 1st and 2nd line support, managed by the Helpdesk Team Leader, and the Development team which consists of a Systems Administrator and Solutions Developer managed by the Systems Architect. Reporting to the IT Manager, the Systems Engineer role acts as a point of escalation for both teams in addition to having their individual tasks to perform. The Systems Engineer role requires flexibility. At Frontier we have adopted a hybrid approach to working post Covid. The current working arrangement is a 40%% split between home and office. However this could vary with more office presence required based on business need. With 7 offices in 6 countries and a data centre in Frankfurt - travel will be an integral part of the role to support both our infrastructure and our colleagues. Infrastructure at Frontier consists of on premise networking, firewalls, and other critical elements and a Private Cloud solution located in Frankfurt. The infrastructure for the Private Cloud is managed by a 3rd party. Public cloud consists of O365, Azure and point solutions such as CRM and meeting room management platforms. Role Responsibilities There are 3 key aspects that the Systems Engineer will be responsible for: Implementation Optimisation Operation of the systems. Implementation:- To implement IT projects working closely with the IT Team and business to ensure successful outcomes and delivery. Examples would be Linux solutions such as R Workbench, integrations with Azure AD such as MFA with other platforms or point solutions such as a room booking platform. Optimisation::- Optimising the systems by identifying opportunities to reduce business risk, improve security or efficiency in solutions deployed Implementing best practice, security hardening and standardisation across servers, applications and solutions. Examples would be Email retention polices, Data Archiving methods and policies and tuning of the office 365 environment Operational:- Resolution and management of escalated issues from the helpdesk team Management of infrastructure changes and their impact within the Microsoft Public Cloud stack (O365/Azure AD/Teams/Exchange online) Management of rolling updates to infrastructure across server version, active directory and applications To develop and test disaster recovery and backup solutions in partnership with our cloud providers Documentation - document operating procedures, topology, solutions and systems Change Control - working within a change control framework and process change control requests Technologies Required Technology Knowledge Knowledge and experience of the following technologies is a key requirement for the role:- Networking Linux Windows Server O365/Azure/Intune Teams/Exchange (hybrid) Nutanix/Proxmox/VMware Desired Technology Knowledge Knowledge and experience of the following technologies is optional but desirable SCEPMAN Crestron Meraki Varonis Checkpoint Personal Skills Training, Development and Knowldge Sharing  The systems engineer role is required to keep knowledge up to date and current, assess opportunities from new technologies or solutions for the business, and share knowledge with the IT Team both through documentation and presentations to eliminate single points of failure,and maintain business resiliency. Communication To be competent at communicating on a one to one basis, in teams settings and with colleagues across the business, both in person and remotely, both in a technical and non-technical style.  Team working and Self Management To be able to work effectively as part of a team, as well on their own initiative, managing competing priorities, keeping stakeholders informed on progress and deliverables.
