Joining the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) means making a real difference to the world. Now uniting development and diplomacy in one new department, the FCDO pursues the UK's national interests overseas. We assist British citizens, promote trade, safeguard the UK's security, and defend the nation's values.

Our Consular Services Department (CSD) provides services that British people abroad can access directly 24/7. These include a Consular Contact Centre, remote processing and issuing of urgent documents, digital services such as notarial and document services, and the presentation of consular content on the GOV.UK website.

CSD is currently implementing a five-year Digital, Data and Technology investment known as the Resilient Consular Services Programme. As Data Protection Manager, you will ensure that data underpinning new and existing public-facing services is safe and secure, incorporating data protection by design principles. This includes building a full understanding of the data flows within and between our IT systems and the digital and data applications underpinning our public-facing services. We will look to you to provide expert advice and guidance on data protection as we develop systems, policies, and processes.

You will hold a British Computer Society Chartered Institute for IT or equivalent Foundation Level GDPR qualification, with an in-depth understanding of data protection principles and best practice. Your project management skills will have been honed by working collaboratively with transformational project teams and stakeholders at all levels.  You will have a good grasp of risk identification and management, and a background in the production of data protection impact assessments and information flow maps.  A strong focus on quality and a drive for improvement are also important.

In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a high-quality pension scheme, a minimum of 25 days' holiday, flexible working and excellent, long-term career development and training.
