Job title - UK Payroll ManagerLocation - St Albans/Remote Rate - Up to £220 PAYE or Umbrella £282Start date - ASAPContract - 12 months Our financial services client is currently seeking a Payroll Manager to join their team in the London office/remote working, this contract will initially be for 12 months.Responsible for directly managing a payroll team in the effective running of a complex and high-volume payroll.Ensure Payrolls adhere to the Policies and Conditions of Service referring any deviations to Senior Management.Assist in ensuring that The Bank complies with all their legislative responsibilities as laid down by the HMRC.Provide training and advice to the Payroll Team on escalated and more complex pay and tax queries.To ensure the team processes are reviewed, updated and audit compliant.Actively promote and adhere to risk and controls across Payroll services and ensure that improvement to processes and working environment are in place to increase controls effectiveness and minimise risk, including supporting on continuous monitoring activitySupport and engage with wider HR Service teams to ensure appropriate payroll knowledge is embedded to service internal customersOversee the payroll servicing KPI's (sla's kpi's etc…) by utilising data to drive improvements to customer journey, processes, and channel utilization (Self-service, tier 1, mobile app, Esme etc…Knowledge & Experience / Qualifications Generic SkillsAbility to lead and motivate a team involved in both technical and supervisory roles (essential)Ability to communicate with internal customers and third parties at all levels up to Senior Management (essential)Ability to plan and manage change (essential)Effective interpersonal and negotiation skills (essential)Technical skills/System knowledgeProblem solving and analysis skills. (essential)An understanding of the interfaces between the above systems and HMRC imports data (essential)Industry/working experience5 years' payroll experience (essential)2 years' experience in a managerial with supervisory responsibilities (essential)HIGH VOLUME PAYROLL (Essential)The UK Payroll team is part of UK People Services.The UK Payroll team is responsible for the payment and or reporting of salaries to over 42,000 employees, with an annual gross pay figure more than £1 Billion pounds. The UK payroll is a highly complex bespoke system configured to meet the demands of the business with an extremely varied set of conditions of service.With the more manual work (e.g., keying, and routine enquiries) being undertaken by the Global Service Centre (GSC), the payroll team deal with the more complex and confidential areas of work. The payroll team has responsibility for ensuring the validity of the data held on the Group HR System, as well as overseeing the processes undertaken in the GSC and where appropriate reviewing and changing their procedures. They are required to support the GSC in dealing with complex work/enquiries, with offering UK legislation guidance.The payroll team is also responsible for all payments to third parties that relate to payroll along with the reconciliation of accounts. For example, payments to the HMRC typically exceed £900 million per year. Increasingly the Payroll role is one of advice and counseling as the business seeks to implement new initiatives and policies.The payroll structure clearly encourages individuals to develop and expand their role by increasing their experience and knowledge across HR Services. The management roles have specific areas of responsibility within payroll and play a crucial part within the wider business area in developing, formulating, and implementing projects where they are payroll related.
