As part of this, the ONR are seeking to appoint a Business Intelligence Developer to support on Data Warehouse / Analytics development and Cloud adoption.The ONR is the UK's independent nuclear regulator, with the legal authority to regulate nuclear safety, security and conventional health and safety at 36 licensed nuclear sites in Great Britain (GB). This includes the existing fleet of operating reactors, fuel cycle facilities, waste management and decommissioning sites, as well as licensed defence sites, together with the regulation of the design and construction of new nuclear facilities.ONR also regulates the transport of nuclear and radioactive materials by road, rail and inland waterways, and as of January 2021 operates the UK's State System of Accountancy for and Control of Nuclear Materials (SSAC) and a domestic safeguards regime.The role is largely remote working and can be based out of Cheltenham, London or Bootle (Liverpool) offices.Job PurposeAs the BI Developer, you will provide essential Business Intelligence development support for the wider Business Intelligence (BI) function. This is an exciting role in a newly formed team part of the IT department and is essential to ensure the needs of the business are met going forward. BI aims to use the data from across the ONR and turn this into meaningful information that can be used to support decision making or draw actionable insights. BI function is made up of BI development, BI Change, BI Delivery and an Admin & Support team. This role will be part of the BI Development and reports into a Senior BI Developer.This Role involves a mix of data engineering, data modelling, data visualisation, reporting and monitoring/supporting activities. The role has the opportunity for the post holder to personally develop technical skills around Azure, SQL, Power BI Models/datasets, Power automate, PowerApps, etc whilst supporting finance, HR, IT and operational departments. Working with a Senior BI Developer this is a hands-on role for someone who has is keen to develop their career and be given the help and support to keep developing your technical skills.Key Responsibilities The post will entail working with stakeholders to understand the requirements and to design, develop, test and deliver solutions to address these requirements. This will include collaborative working in an agile environment and so the ability to communicate effectively with both a technical and a non-technical audience is important.The role will involve assessing and validating coding tool methods and technologies to inform the direction of the development of the various components used in the metadata management solution, before implementing recommendations.The post will also provide a core coding (SQL) and management resource for meeting the demand for collecting and ingesting multiple source applications into the ONR's BI platform.Support proof of concept activities relating to product selection and procurement of data management tools and softwareSome engagement with data owners and business SMEs to identify business requirement, drivers, impact, and data usage patterns. Profile data to provide meaningful insight, provide root cause analysis, and make recommendations for continual improvement. Ensure adherence with data standards and support data quality function by reporting issues found during research activities.The role also provides an opportunity to meet these responsibilities using software tools in relational databases (SQL), data modelling/ Visualisation tools (Power BI, etc), Azure Board in a Cloud environment (Azure).Develop dashboards and reporting models (currently using Power BI but may expand to other tools) to support the lineage activity.
