UKAEA are at the forefront of realising energy from fusion, working with industry and research partners to deliver the ground-breaking developments that will underpin tomorrow's fusion power stations with the aim of bringing fusion electricity to the grid.
 
Who are we looking for?
 
We are seeking an experienced project manager to be responsible for a wide range of project activities associated with the design, installation and commissioning of experimental apparatus as part of the fusion science programs and their enabling technologies.
 
You will be working with a wide range of stakeholders, all passionate about realising Fusion as a viable power source and this will come with its own unique and diverse range of challenges, while delivering some of the UKs most future-defining projects. You will have a passion for ensuring good project management practices and enabling a supportive delivery culture. You will be well suited to this role if you are able to display exemplar leadership behaviours and exceptional stakeholder management skills.
 
Working as part of our world-first tritium research centre (H3AT), it is an exciting time to join UKAEA to further develop your career in a complex yet fascinating industry. You must have a track record of delivering complex engineering projects to budget, time and cost and will possess chartered status in a relevant STEM discipline.
 
What will you be responsible for?
 
- Providing robust management of project(s) of budgets of up to circa £25M
- Maintaining oversight of projects, particularly estimate formation, planning, cost forecast and monitoring, overall execution strategy delivery
- The effective deployment of project resources through clear definition of roles and responsibilities, working methods and the sequencing of tasks   
- Ensuring all project activities are undertaken in a systematic manner with a Systems Engineering approach at the core of the technical solution to project objectives    
- Reporting of progress against milestones, changes, exceptions, budgets and other key performance indicators
- Liaising with other Groups and Departments to ensure effective co-ordination and collaboration across interfaces and competing demands
- Leading and managing science project activities associated to the H3AT fusion science programs and their enabling technologies
- Collaborating with external partners and national and international travel may be required to attend and present at a range of conferences
 
Qualifications
Essential skills, experience and competence required
 
- Chartered status in a relevant Engineering discipline
- Professional Project Management qualification (for L.6 PMI or equivalent required)
- Extensive experience as a line manager, ideally of a team working in a matrix structure (L.6)
- Track record of delivering complex engineering projects to budget, time and cost
- A pro-active approach to safety, with good appreciation of UK compliance requirements in design
- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise project value
- Excellent communication, influencing and collaboration skills
 
Please note, this role is split over two levels and the Level 5 offers a salary of £49,396 - £52,293 (inclusive of MPP) and the Level 6 offers a salary of £60,317 - £63,855 (inclusive of MPP). Your level will be assessed as part of the interview process.
