THE UKHSA's role is to protect the health of the nation from infectious diseases and other threats to health. The COVD-19 pandemic has exposed how important it is that decisions and evidence are underpinned by high quality data and rigorous analytics; we are looking for data scientists at all levels of experience to work on some of the most detailed and up to date health datasets to help the UK deal with COVID-19.

If you choose to join the UKHSA, you will be working with a highly motivated and passionate group of people including epidemiologists, economists and health experts, who have come together to work on the biggest health challenges our nation has faced. You will be working alongside them in an exciting and fast paced environment with an unparalleled opportunity to make your mark on government policy and the future of UK health protection.

Examples of work we have done:

Helped produce and validate the ‘R' estimate for the UK with SPI-M

Developed models to forecast the spread of new variants across the UK

Understanding how COVID is transmitted between different demographic groups.

We have a modern cloud based technology stack with all analysis conducted on either AWS or Azure using Python, R and SQL. We have access to the most recent COVID-19 testing data, hospital data (HES, SUS) and other relevant public and commercial datasets.

Benefits:

Competitive salary starting from: £36,329

Civil service defined benefit pension

Remote first contracts: you can work remotely from anywhere in the UK with access to UKHSA offices in your region.

Provision of homeworking equipment.

We have all been affected by COVID-19. This is your opportunity to help and make a difference, working at the heart of the battle to defeat COVID-19.

Closing date: 11:55pm on Sunday 23 January 2022.
