Digital Catapult is looking for an experienced CPU Architect, what we are calling internally our System Security Technologist, to be the technical lead for the Digital Security by Design (DSbD) Access programme.

The DSbD Access programme will deliver the wider project consortium goal which is to radically improve the foundation security of the UK's digital computing infrastructure, securing next generation devices for businesses and the public - from Internet of Things (IoT) products to personal devices and autonomous vehicles. The consortium behind the DSbD Access programme comprises members from world-leading tech industry companies, researchers and advocacy organisations including Arm, Microsoft, Thales, Google, the University of Cambridge, UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), Linaro and Digital Catapult.

Digital Catapult is the delivery partner of the Access programme developed to facilitate prototype experimentation on the Morello board and CHERI architecture, designed by the University of Cambridge and Arm. The scope of the programme challenge includes implementing updated hardware architecture, developing the software and system development tools that will run on it, and demonstrating their application and value across a range of different industry sectors. In partnership with engineers from Arm and University of Cambridge's systems researchers, you will facilitate the experimentation of the technology by a select group of start-ups and scale-ups and early technology adopters. By enabling and leading them in their R&D journey with the Morello board and CHERI architecture you will play a pivotal role in realising the potential benefits and impact of this new prototype technology. The System Security Technologist is a pivotal role within the Digital Catapult team that works closely with innovation practitioners and technologists from across industry and academia.

What We're Looking for:

Previous experience with MIPS, RISC-V, or ARMv8-A architectures

Able to present to both technical and non technical audiences

Strong experience with a variety of embedded development languages such as C, C++

Knowledge of firmware and embedded operating system security principles as well as embedded software development

Familiarity with side channel, fault injection and other low-level attack vectors

Past experience with the FreeBSD operating system or Clang/LLVM compiler, is strongly desirable

Experience of security across the stack in particular the communication and application layers is desirable

Experience with other languages including Rust and Javascript is desirable

Hands on experience of working in a collaborative agile environment, working with test-driven or behaviour-driven development and continuous deployment

Ability to handle multiple projects at different stages of development as well as operational issues

Great communication skills, proactive and self-confident, able to cope with ambiguity, changing and evolving priorities

Enthusiasm for new technologies, invention/innovation and cyber security
