About The Role

Operating within the UK's financial sector, CBS faces numerous sophisticated cyber threats on a regular basis. The Defensive Operations Manager will be responsible for leading and managing a team of security experts as part of our operational response to these threats.
The team is responsible for the security logging and monitoring of the Society's systems, threat and vulnerability monitoring, cyber incident response, development and application of security standards, penetration testing, and risk management. You will provide a technical and management escalation point for a variety of security issues, developing and driving improvement strategies to meet the Society's threats, regulatory requirements and risk appetite.
Working with our security partners, the Defensive Operations Manager will drive and develop DefOps services to internal stakeholders. You will provide mentorship and development to the team, set performance objectives, and prioritise workloads while ensuring they are united in their mission.
You will work with a range of senior stakeholders, taking the lead with cyber incident response, communicating the results of investigations and guiding the business in remediation strategies.

About You

You'll have a strong technical cybersecurity background with an ability to communicate in non-technical language to a range of stakeholders. Passionate about cyber security, you will keep up-to-date with emerging threats and be capable of formulating detection and response procedures to mitigate them.

You'll have experience leading and managing operational security teams in a regulated environment, including taking the lead throughout the incident response process. You will be able to make sound, technical decisions whilst remaining calm under pressure.
And you'll will be passionate about cybersecurity and hungry to drive continuous improvement to the processes and technology your team employ.

  • Demonstrable experience in Cyber security or IT operations
  • Deep understanding of the Cyber Kill Chain, MITRE ATT&CK or similar frameworks
  • Experience managing a security teams in a regulated environment.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
  • Recognised Information and Cyber Security experience and certification e.g. GSOC, GCIH, etc.
  • Substantial experience working in a risk based Information Security role and familiar with project delivery.
  • A broad view of business processes and application of security controls, process and capabilities, enabling technologies and governance to be delivered using a pragmatic approach.
  • Experience reporting risk profiles relating to IT and Business to stakeholders.
  • Experience in supporting the design of secure solutions, defining security policies standards and driving best practice security across a financial organisation.
