Working in collaboration with the business and Data & Analytics colleagues, as a Senior Data Engineer you will develop and construct data products and services and integrate them into systems and business processes. As we continue to invest in new technologies, you will design and lead the implementation of data flows to connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence systems. You'll also recognise opportunities to re-use existing data flows, optimise code to ensure processes perform optimally and lead work on database management.

This is a great opportunity for an experienced Data Engineer to join a fast-paced commercial business at an exciting time as the we continue to grow and develop, transform and evolve our data strategy.

Please note as part of our Seasalt Connected approach to ways of working, this role can be based flexibly across our Cornwall head office locations and remotely, subject to the individual's choice and agreement with the line manager. Further details can be discussed at interview.

  • Translating and integrating business requirements into the analytics architecture by working closely with Data & Analytics colleagues and the business.
  • Designing, building and testing complex data products and data integration services. Producing and maintaining appropriate documentation.
  • Developing data pipelines and streams to facilitate movement of data across the business' full analytics architecture.
  • Working closely with analysts across the business to expose data for self-service using modern data visualisation platforms (e.g. Power BI, Pyramid Analytics) and Azure API Apps.
  • Understanding the impact of emerging trends on the organisation in data tools, analysis techniques and data usage.
  • Selecting and implementing appropriate technologies to deliver resilient, scalable and future-proofed data solutions. Providing leadership and guidance on good practice analytics architecture development and design.
  • Producing data models across multiple subject areas, applying industry recognised patterns and standards.
  • Designing appropriate metadata repository. Providing oversight and advice to more inexperienced members of the team.
  • Communicating between technical and non-technical stakeholders as well as facilitating discussions within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Providing data profiling and source system analysis, presenting insights to colleagues to support the end use of data.
  • Responding to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur. Initiating actions, monitoring services and identifying trends to resolve problems.
  • Defining and using agreed standards and tools to design, code, test, correct and document complex programs and scripts.
  • Reviewing requirements, specifications and defining test conditions. Identifying issues and risks associated with work while being able to analyse and report test activities and results.

The skills you'll be sharing with the team:

With strong previous data engineering and analysis experience, you'll have a track record of development with cloud hosted data/integration architectures on Microsoft Azure, including Synapse Analytics, Data Lake, Tabular SSAS and Power BI datasets. Your development experience will also include Visual Studio, SQL Server, SSIS, SQL and T-SQL and ideally Azure Devops. Data modelling and architecture schemas, ETL tools, scripting and scheduling will all be familiar to you, plus self-serve BI tools.

A logical thinker with an eye for detail, you'll have excellent analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills. You'll be able to effectively manage multiple priorities and conflicting requests in a fast-moving environment and be highly adaptable. You'll also have strong communication and team work skills with the ability to influence technical decisions.
