Role Purpose

The post holder will be responsible for managing NRW's server estate, providing technical second and third line (expert) support to the business. The role will also provide expert advice and support to Development and Innovation Programme, in the creation and development of new solutions and to the ICT security team. 

The post holder will have overall responsibility for delivering server and storage services to NRW staff, within the NRW office estate and whilst working remotely.

Qualifications and Skills

  1. MCSE/MCSA or other relevant server certifications.
  2. Degree level qualification in ICT related subject or equivalent qualification/experience.
  3. Netapp Storage certification.
  4. VMware VCP certification

Hard skills:

  1. Infrastructure engineering.
  2. Windows Server 2008 R2 and 2012 R2.
  3. Physical and Virtual infrastructure (HP, VMware, Hyper-V and Azure).
  4. Wintel server skills (administration/configuration including
  5. Active Directory, Group Policy, DFS, DNS, DHCP, SCCM, WSUS, SQL).
  6. Microsoft Remote Desktop Services / Remote App deployment and configuration.
  7. Converged Datacentre networks.
  8. PowerShell scripting and automation.
  9. Hardware installation and maintenance.
    Storage area networks (NetApp).
  10. Antivirus/Malware technologies (McAfee and MS).
  11. Backup technologies.
  12. Disaster recovery technologies.
  13. Cloud technologies (Azure and Office 365).
  14. Infrastructure Monitoring (SCOM 2012 R2 & Solarwinds).
  15. Microsoft Azure IaaS implementation and administration.
  16. Microsoft SCOM 2012 R2 implementation and administration.

Soft skills:

  1. Experience of managing a technical team.
  2. Proven track record of planning and delivering large scale infrastructure projects
  3. Excellent communication, design and problem solving skills.
  4. Proven track record in analysing and resolving faults within SLAs
  5. Undertaking routine preventative measures and implementing, maintaining and monitoring infrastructure security.
  6. Commitment to delivering very high standard of customer care.
  7. Capacity, capability and resource planning.
  8. Management of third party service providers.
