The Role.

As a Senior Data Engineer in our Data Enablement team you will be hands-on in delivering quality data pipelines that are essential to supporting our digital transformation programmes and maximising the value of data across the business.

We are entirely in the cloud, with a greenfield tech stack; able to take advantage of powerful commoditised offerings where we can, building bespoke cloud-native solutions when they can differentiate us from our competition.

What you'll be doing

Applying your knowledge of best practices, the latest tools and standards to ensure we are making the most of our tech, re-using existing data flows where possible and being a champion for data across the business.

Advising and leading the design and build of data pipelines to ensure they are fit for purpose, efficient and scalable.

Supporting our agenda of building high performing tech teams, with frequent iterative deployments to production, minimal lead time on change, low levels of change failure and a strong focus on quality.

We believe in an open and collaborative working environment, and we want you to draw upon your experience to help establish this culture across teams, whilst ensuring we apply appropriate governance to our projects. We also encourage proactive engagement across the wider business, and through activities and initiatives such as data experiments and hackathons, you will play a key part in developing our data culture.

Your qualifications & experience

You have a strong background in data engineering, in which you demonstrated an eagerness to expand your set of skills and learn new technologies

You have experience of building data pipelines in a cloud native environment with an in-depth understanding of best practice, with a strong understanding of the opportunities of cloud computing and how to use it well

You are able to communicate with, and provide support to, other members of the team and wider business to, gather and replay requirements, ensuring pipelines are built to the agreed specification

You have strong hands on data engineering skills in some or all of our core technical stack and tooling: SQL/Python/AWS/Terraform/GitHub/Circle Ci

You are an advocate of automation, always looking for opportunities to remove manual process and increase automation, and executing on these

You take accountability for the quality of your own deliverables and are able to peer review the work of other Data Engineers in the team, using automation to test quality wherever possible

You understand the concepts and principles of data modelling and can produce relevant data models across multiple subject areas

You understand, and are able to promote, the importance of metadata, profiling and lineage. You understand a range of tools for data management and are able to make suggestions for improving existing tools and processes

You are able to identify and respond to problems in databases, data processes, data products and services as they occur

You understand, and are able to communicate, the impact of emerging trends in data engineering, including tools, analysis techniques and data usage

You are able to create and manage relevant documentation to support delivery
