Our reward package
The Met Office is recruiting for Software Developers based at our Exeter HQ with hybrid/ remote working.
Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £45,585 per annum, which includes basic salary, market supplement, potential corporate bonus, employer pension contributions.
As our Software Developer your starting salary will be £30,932 with opportunities to progress to £33,925 over time. This role attracts a market forces supplement of £1,125 per annum paid quarterly, pro-rated from the date of taking up the appointment to 31 March 2022 - this scheme is currently under review.

Job Purpose
As a Software Developer at the Met Office you will:
plan and lead development on sets of related stories
have an understanding of the whole system and take responsibility for teaching this to others
work with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built
coach and mentor more junior colleagues
help operate and support the production services you build
find ways to improve system robustness, resilience and stability, within your team and more generally in the wider department
continually develop your own skills as part of a programme of professional development
Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
Proven ability to plan and lead development on sets of stories, for example
designing, coding, testing and documenting programs or scripts of medium to high complexity
using the right standards and tools
embedding appropriate security controls.
Experience of delivering and supporting services, for example
collaborating with others to review and agree specifications
co-ordinating build and/or release activities
undertaking and supporting integration test activities
proven ability to find and fix faults or help colleagues to do so.
Evidence of being a collaborative team worker, for example
Coaching and mentoring more junior colleagues
Working with other disciplines to understand what needs to be built
Excellent communication skills
Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities
