We are seeking a developer with experience of PL/SQL. You will join a small team within Registry Services at Solent University consisting of a manger, two developers and two analysts.

Initially you will be providing support for our existing student record system - Quercus. Quercus is at the end of its life at Solent and we are currently engaged in a project to implement SITS as its replacement. We expect to change completely from Quercus to SITS in August 2023.

Quercus is used by University staff and students (around 10,000 people) meaning your work will have a significant impact across the University. Initially the main part of your role will be supporting Quercus which relies on SQL and Oracle Forms for some parts of its functionality and on APEX for others. As we progress from Quercus to SITS you will become involved in the business-as-usual tasks of working with both systems.

You will have experience of:

Designing and solving complex business problems by writing simple and effective PL/SQL code.

Participating and collaborating in insightful, effective code reviews.

Software and system testing.

Working with Oracle databases.

Collaborating with users and systems analysts to gain insight, and to develop detailed requirements.

Creating solutions for end users using your own initiative.

We would like you to be able to:

Learn new skills independently and proactively and are constantly striving to raise technical excellence.

Understand system and software specifications and choose appropriate designs to meet requirements.

Modernise some of our legacy reports.

Work with colleagues in ICT and Learning and Teaching to help to improve the student and staff experience of the existing student record system.

Work with professional services and academic staff to assist in the move from Quercus to SITS.

People come to work at Solent because we're a modern and ambitious university with exciting plans for the future. We're focused on the practical side of higher education, providing the connections and confidence to turn knowledge into careers with real meaningful impact.

By working together, we aim to create an inclusive, healthy environment to provide an excellent people experience and a workplace where living the Solent values is central to everything we do.

Solent University offers an excellent benefits package.

We are Confident. We are Progressive. We are Inclusive. We Are Solent.
