Our reward package

The Met Office is recruiting for a DevOps Engineer based at our Exeter HQ with hybrid/ remote working.

Your total reward package is potentially worth up to £45,161 annually, which includes basic salary, market forces supplement, potential corporate bonus and employer pension contributions.

Your starting salary will be £30932.00 with opportunities to progress to £33925.00 over time. New joiners to the Met Office will start on the salary band minima.

You will receive a market forces supplement of £1125.00 per annum paid quarterly, pro-rated from the date of taking up the appointment to 31 March 2022 - this scheme is currently under review.

Job Purpose

As our DevOps Engineer the key duties are:

Working closely with, and supporting, colleagues within a development and support environment

Developing the AWS cloud platform to improve the service delivered

Maintaining the AWS cloud platform to ensure a high-quality operational service is provided

Providing technical consultancy to the Technology department and the wider business regarding the use of cloud services

Providing effective communication to a diverse audience

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

Experience of working with the AWS public cloud based platform

A working knowledge of developing and maintaining operational IT Services

Proficient in the use of scripting languages and code development good practice

Demonstrable enthusiasm for working in IT and an ability to solve complex IT problems

Good communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to staff across a wide range of teams

Good team-working skills and when appropriate the ability to work to your own initiative

Desirable Qualifications, Skills & Abilities

We operate an on-call roster in Technology to provide 24/7/365 support to respond to operational service requirements. This post may be part of an on-call roster and the postholder would be required to participate in an on-call roster where in operation.
