Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system - a goal that everyone wants to achieve.

Our Delivery & Schemes Directorate is our delivery arm, and manages a number of high-profile environmental programmes. It's a fast-paced and dynamic place to work, and you can expect to be involved in ground-breaking work. Our flexible working career opportunities are varied, so we are committed to recruiting talented people from a diverse range of professional and personal backgrounds - bringing different perspectives to our work.

The Energy Company Obligation (ECO) scheme plays a very significant part in helping the most vulnerable people to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, and addresses the issue of fuel poverty. The next scheme (ECO4) is due to begin in April 2022, and this role is key to fulfilling user research needs for this and other projects. Working with multi-disciplinary agile teams, third party development partners and stakeholders, you'll be a pivotal part of our in-house user research capability. As well as developing and advocating appropriate research strategies to understand user needs for a service, continually testing and improving products and services, you'll help to upskill other members of staff and play an active part in building a User Research community in Ofgem. It's fast-paced, stimulating work with exposure and involvement in different areas, as part of an experienced and knowledgeable team.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated and outgoing, and have a track record of applying user-centred design practices effectively in an agile development environment - GDS experience and awareness of standards would be desired. A personal insight into the diversity of service users, and the importance of services being usable and accessible for everyone, is a must. You'll bring excellent knowledge and experience of user research tools and techniques, and will understand the best approach to deploy in any given context. Innovative, methodical, and able to manage shifting priorities and conflicting views, you'll also have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and be comfortable with quickly developing evidence-based recommendations. Finally, we will look for the communication skills to present user research findings in a variety of formats and contexts, and in engaging and persuasive ways.
