With over 60,000 members, The Newt in Somerset is a vibrant and innovative attraction, animated throughout the seasons by special events, workshops and digital programmes.   Department Description The Engineering Department looks after the bricks and mortar, vehicular assets and digital infrastructure of The Newt in Somerset. Alongside conducting scheduled and preventive maintenance activity, the department is engaged in furthering technological innovation. A crucial support and development leader for the wider estate.   Position Summary We are looking for an ambitious, inquisitive and imaginative digital engineer, to engage and lead on the future development of VR and AR technology in our interactive museums and exhibits. We are looking for cutting edge software and hardware solutions to elevate our exhibitions and visitor experiences, so if you're a C++ expert with an in-depth knowledge of computer architecture, a love for solving novel problems from first principles, and an aptitude for optimization, you'll thrive in our collaborative environment. The role will present opportunities to: Travel the world to absorb the emerging technology and contextualise it to the environment here at The Newt Conceptualise events at a high level, outlining the theme and desired impact to educate, engage and wow our guests and visitors Work with a unique team to explore the art of the possible and deliver world leading exhibitions Engage and work with external consultants to specify, round out and deliver the vision of The Newt Remain completely current and synthesis the newest trends in digital experience indoor / outdoor globally   About you: You're up to date on the newest trends and technology in indoor and outdoor experiences You have experience with using cutting edge technology to make digital experiences demonstrably better You have an eye for detail, and can think about the best user experience from the micro and macro perspectives You know where it's appropriate to use wow factor, and when subtlety is better You have a keen understanding of demographics, and what appeals to different groups and why You can clearly articulate ideas through the use of multiple mediums

Collaborate in a team environment across multiple scientific and engineering disciplines, making the architectural trade-offs required to rapidly deliver digital technologies.
