Why you should join us...

Simply put, as a Media and Entertainment brand at heart, we are people-focussed and place a huge emphasis on innovation. Our culture is everything to us and our engineering team power the platforms for our stars on screen to shape the future.

Here at ITV we are undergoing a major digital transformation drive, across all of our platforms, including overhauling our On-Demand, the home of ITV Hub and BritBox

With the rapid shift in industry trends, from VOD streaming to programmatic AI and ever-changing consumer tastes, accelerating the demand for high-quality, high-volume content delivery at scale, we are looking to leverage our long-standing reputation, as the largest commercial TV network in the UK, in order to create a technology-first media platform that caters to an increasingly diverse worldwide audience.

What are we looking for?

As a Front End Engineering Manager your focus will be working with the On-Demand teams, where you will guide engineers through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development. At ITV our managers lead by example, leveraging integrity, transparency and effective communication whilst fostering a productive culture that allows others to thrive; be it through facilitating cross-team collaboration and removing blockers, or by aiding the team to help themselves by constantly improving and refining their working practices.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leveraging your commercial experience in any programming language, with a preference for front-end technologies and frameworks
  • Participating in recruitment activities, from reviewing applications and attending interviews to overseeing onboarding and training and ensuring a diverse recruitment process
  • Matrix line-management of engineers in an agile environment, including career progression/training discussions and giving feedback
  • Mediating technical and interpersonal discussions - with a focus on coaching and empowering your team
  • Assisting with team organisation, structuring, and staff rotation.
  • Adding engineering capacity without being on the critical path to delivery
  • Promoting ITV as an engineering capability inside and outside of the organisation

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills (minimum role criteria):

  • Worked at a Senior level as a programmer, preferably in front end technologies. This implies a good understanding of:
    • Programming in Javascript, HTML & CSS
    • Testing practices
    • Technical front-end architecture
    • Service/system performance
    • Build, test, and deployment pipelines
  • Experience running a small team in an engineering lead/senior capacity, with a demonstrable understanding of the concepts and trade-offs of Agile delivery
  • A desire to work on, if not direct experience with, the people side of software engineering.
  • Ability to look at a business process, assess its value, and propose/articulate suitable alternatives
  • Stakeholder management experience.
  • Experience with all aspects of recruitment

ITV strongly encourages applications for this role from candidates with a disability and, as a Disability Confident Leader, if you meet the minimum criteria for a role and you have declared that you have a disability, we'll guarantee you'll get to the next stage*.

Desirable skills:

  • DevOps / platform engineering
  • Cloud-based deployments
  • Databases and queuing technologies

We're happy to discuss any support/personalisation you may need during our application process as part of our reasonable adjustments approach. So we encourage you to get in touch with us if you require anything.

We are fully committed to embracing flexible hybrid-working options. You may have to come in occasionally, but the rest is up to you! Most importantly, we are in the entertainment business after all - with fun shows, from the likes of Love Island, to live sporting events including the Euros and World Cup. We want you to have fun and enjoy your work!

We reach millions of people everyday, that's why having diverse talents and being an organisation where colleagues feel included is crucial to us. We have various networks who celebrate and support our colleagues and we try to embed an inclusive mindset in everything we do. Find out more here

* There may be a few exceptions where we are not able to take all eligible candidates to the next stage due to the volume of applications.
