What are we looking for?

As a Front End Engineering Manager your focus will be working with the On-Demand teams, where you will guide engineers through coaching, mentoring, feedback, and career development. At ITV our managers lead by example, leveraging integrity, transparency and effective communication whilst fostering a productive culture that allows others to thrive; be it through facilitating cross-team collaboration and removing blockers, or by aiding the team to help themselves by constantly improving and refining their working practices.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leveraging your commercial experience in any programming language, with a preference for front-end technologies and frameworks
  • Participating in recruitment activities, from reviewing applications and attending interviews to overseeing onboarding and training and ensuring a diverse recruitment process
  • Matrix line-management of engineers in an agile environment, including career progression/training discussions and giving feedback
  • Mediating technical and interpersonal discussions - with a focus on coaching and empowering your team
  • Assisting with team organisation, structuring, and staff rotation.
  • Adding engineering capacity without being on the critical path to delivery
  • Promoting ITV as an engineering capability inside and outside of the organisation

To be considered for this opportunity you will need to demonstrate the following skills (minimum role criteria):

  • Worked at a Senior level as a programmer, preferably in front end technologies. This implies a good understanding of:
    • Programming in Javascript, HTML & CSS
    • Testing practices
    • Technical front-end architecture
    • Service/system performance
    • Build, test, and deployment pipelines
  • Experience running a small team in an engineering lead/senior capacity, with a demonstrable understanding of the concepts and trade-offs of Agile delivery
  • A desire to work on, if not direct experience with, the people side of software engineering.
  • Ability to look at a business process, assess its value, and propose/articulate suitable alternatives
  • Stakeholder management experience.
  • Experience with all aspects of recruitment
