IT Support Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION 

We have a newly created role of IT Support Technician based in our central London office. This is a great opportunity looking after our IT Hardware, operating systems and applications. You will monitor cloud and web solutions, including software and service licences. In fact, you will become the main point of contact for the daily handling of technical support issues and troubleshooting.  

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE 

Reporting to the Head of IT, you will need to keep our busy teams connected, whether this is mobile, or desktop equipment.  As we invest in our IT infrastructure this is a great opportunity to learn, improve your own knowledge and become an integral part of our IT team.

RESPONSIBILITIES (not limited to)

Diagnose and resolve technical problems via telephone or remote desktop for all computer hardware, software and peripherals, using where appropriate, a range of software tools and troubleshooting techniques.

To perform hardware repairs and upgrades including operating systems and business applications for existing and new users.

To log all support jobs and document their outcomes.

To install, expand and maintain computer wired and wireless networks including associated peripherals such as printers, routers/modems wireless access points etc.

Configure routers, switches and firewalls.

Provide professional rapid response to all user support requests.

To assist in the acquisition of computer hardware, software and peripherals and maintenance of in house stock.

To provide basic instructional training, and assist with onboarding of new users.

Help with equipment moves when necessary.

Suggest ways to improve IT infrastructure, whilst continually assessing needs and equipment of all users.

Install and configure computer hardware operating systems, monitor and maintain networks, set up new user accounts and profiles.

Test and evaluate new technology.

Assist with equipment disposal and decommissioning.

To maintain confidentiality at all times.

To identify your training needs in discussion with the Head of IT.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 

A minimum of 2 years' experience in an IT helpdesk or Support Environment as the point of contact for technical supprt issues or troubleshooting.

Demonstrable skills in identifying and resolving many common computer faults, whether hardware, software or network related, using a systematic approach.

Windows 10 Pro operating system

Managing Apple software and hardware would be advantageous

Azure, Windows Server or Powerball, Office 365, SharePoint, ESET anti-virus or similar.

Ability to multi-task, manage numerous ‘cases' at once, whilst remaining calm and professional

Excellent communication and administration skills

Understanding of computer networks and systems and understand topologies and types as well as wired and virtual networking and Protocols

Hold a wide understanding of computer networks and systems, DHCP, NAT and DNS. Knowledge of API's and Web Services, Visualisation and virtual network, WAN and LAN Connectivity, including routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi and security

Have an awareness of security threats and countermeasures, organisational policies and procedures, legislation, VPN's and security platforms and tools for networks and businesses.

Hold a knowledge of cloud-based platforms, systems and security

Ability to use tact and diplomacy in all interpersonal relationships with colleagues and the ability to provide a high level of customer care and satisfaction.

Finally, a good sense of humour is not essential but would be most welcome!

WORKING PATTERN

This role is 37.5 hours per week; 7.5 hours per day Monday to Friday (with an unpaid break of 1 hour). The position is expected to join the rota for additional out of hours cover and this is paid as overtime.

Starting salary range £25k-£32k, experience dependant
