Technical Author - Software Development | London / Cambridge / Remote

Savanta is a thriving research and data consultancy that informs and inspires clients to Make Better Decisions. Working with high-profile organisations and some of the world's best-known brands, we offer a full range of integrated intelligence products and services at global scale - underpinned by sector, audience, and methodological expertise - delivered with entrepreneurial spirit and a client-first mindset.

At the heart of Savanta is a brilliant 28-strong Tech Team that builds and maintains our suite of proprietary insight products, including the Vue data dashboards, and our end-to-end custom research, data collection and reporting platform.

The Role

The Technical Author will ensure that the users and customers of the Savanta Platform have the information and resources they need to use and get the best from it. You will help to provide the right information at the appropriate point of need so that there's a consistently high quality and cohesive experience for the users of our products and services, without the need for extensive support.

Working with product development teams, UX designers, Product Management, Customer Success, Product Support, and other colleagues across the business, you will help define the content strategy for the platform, and create and maintain content to meet its information needs.

Areas of focus will include:

Documentation: tutorials, guides, reference information;

User onboarding for products and services;

Embedded content that helps users across our platform.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Scoping, writing, and editing content for products and services across our platform;

Managing content through its lifecycle and ensuring it is both findable and well structured;

Working closely with designers and engineers to ensure appropriate content is shown to users in the right place and in the best format;

Acting as the main point of contact and source of expertise for technical content writing;

Seeking out areas for improvement and developing projects to follow-up with action;

Identifying and engaging with stakeholders to clarify objectives, constraints and commitments, and collaborate on content for users;

Working with subject matter experts to ensure technical or domain-specific content is relevant and accurate;

Working with Product Support to identify and address key user information needs.

About You

You'll have the opportunity to broaden your experience working on a range of products and technologies in a growing company. For success in this role, you'll need to demonstrate an excellent understanding of the power of words and have a strong user focus - able to easily identify the information people need and to tailor your writing to your audience. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in similar roles (technical author, content designer, content strategist, UX writer or similar) alongside experience working on digital products and services.

You should also demonstrate:

The ability to scope, write and edit user-centered content to ensure it's accurate, timely, relevant and accessible;

Experience of getting content authored through facilitation and collaboration as well as doing the writing yourself;

A knack for getting up to speed quickly, and getting the best from subject matter experts;

Great communication skills for presenting your ideas clearly and convincingly, both verbally and in writing, to a range of audiences;

Solid prioritisation and planning skills with the ability to understand and balance competing priorities;

Familiarity with user experience research practices, using data to inform their solutions, and basic interaction design principles.

We're interested in attitude and ability to get the right work done rather than ticking every box for previous experience. In particular, you don't need to know how to code, although experience working with agile development teams would be a definite advantage.
