Diamond is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world, and its pioneering capabilities and talented staff are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.  About the role We now have an opportunity for an Electronics Engineer to join the Diamond Detector Group to design and prototype precision analogue and digital electronic interfaces for X-ray detectors, as well as the testing and benchmarking of detector electronics and data acquisition / readout systems.

Additionally, you will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of detectors and associated electronics for synchrotron X-ray experiments.

Further responsibilities will include: Involvement in assembly of detector electronics, including rack-based systems such as NIM, PXIe and MicroTCA. Assisting in the installation of beamline detector and diagnostic systems. Enhanced development of electronic instrumentation, upgrading existing beamline detector and diagnostics based equipment. General laboratory work for commissioning including detailed commissioning of electronics, specifying electrical cabling and the design and build of simple mechanical devices. Ownership and management of small specific projects in the detector development programme. About You You should hold a degree in Electronics Engineering or demonstrate significant equivalent experience. Membership of a relevant Professional Institute is desirable. You will have experience in precision electronics and instrumentation design, build, installation and commission, from small projects to large detectors, along with experience in electronics systems commissioning and fault finding. You will display knowledge of printed circuit board design and assembly and have hands-on experience of board level circuit test using a range of test equipment (DMM, oscilloscopes, logic analysers etc.), along with the ability to analyse requirements and problems and then produce and implement solutions. Use of data analysis applications such as Matlab, CAD software, Cadence schematic capture and PCB layout in Allegro (or equivalent), and experience with Linux and a programming language, (e.g C++, Java, Python) will be beneficial.
