Sr. Embedded Software Engineer - BASIC FUNCTION:

The Senior Project Engineer, Systems is responsible for:

* developing embedded software for generator controller development

* maintaining software requirements in the configuration management tool

* participating in software design peer reviews

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Estimate software tasks for scheduling purposes

2) Design and develop embedded controller software in languages like C and C++

3) Provide back-end support for controller-connected mobile and web applications

4) Participate in software platform design, development and architecture discussions

5) Develop unit tests and software verification test plans

6) Build management using version control and ticket tracking such as TFS and Git

7) Document and demonstrate solutions by developing prototypes, documentation, flowcharts, layouts, diagrams, charts, code comments and clear code

8) Provide information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing development and service issues

9) Develop software solutions by studying information needs; conferring with users; studying systems flow, data usage, and work processes; investigating problem areas; following the software development lifecycle

10) Participate in embedded software design peer reviews

RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships:

Reports to Manager of Electrical Engineering

Organizational Relationships:

* Frequent contact with Marketing to evaluate controller strategies

* Occasional contact with Field Service to provide technical expertise

* Occasional contact with global Engineering teams to develop global controller algorithms or state machines

* Occasional contact with Sales to determine feasibility of proposed generator applications and special orders

* Occasional contact with Legal to analyze competitive patents and develop new IP

* Occasional contact with upper management to evaluate competitive technical concepts

External Business Relationships:

* External business relationships can include suppliers, educational institutions, distributors, engineering societies, and other businesses using electronic controls

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

1) B.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program

2) Basic knowledge of one or more of the following C, C++, Assembly Language

EXPERIENCE:

1) B.S. in Electrical Engineering and 5 years of related work experience; or

2) B.S. in Engineering and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from an ABET Accredited program and 3 years of related work experience

3) Experience developing requirements-based embedded software in a structured work environment

4) Experience developing software using Agile methods

5) Ability to lead and complete multiple projects in a timely fashion

6) Knowledge of any of the following a plus: MATLAB, Simulink, Integrity, Verilog, VHDL, Microsoft Project, 8d and A3 Problem Solving ApproachesTraits of the ideal candidate:

* Excellent abstract reasoning ability

* Excellent communication skills - including global awareness

* Excellent problem-solving skills, with capability of documenting problem-solving process and data used to make decisions

* Excellent organizational skills

* A broad base of power system industry knowledge including common methods of wiring, grounding, and industry accepted control topologies and communication techniques
