This role is key to the successful delivery of the Organisations IT function working closely with other colleagues in IT, end users, business stakeholders, applications development teams as well as the general user base.

Accountabilities:
Maintaining a stable and secure Linux server/client and HPC infrastructure and resolving hardware and software issues.
Reporting issues where systems are non-functional, communicating with affected users and stakeholders ensuring that relevant parties have been made aware and clear requirements are generated.
Focusing on maintaining, installations and system builds of the RBG Linux environment. Responsible for assisting RBG in delivery, monitoring and managing the day to day environments, including Development, UAT and Production. Areas to cover include:
Securing Linux systems ready for deployment
Configuration and scripting
Maintenance of systems
Creating and maintaining documentation
Contribute to planning and implementing new solutions to improve productivity and stability, taking proof-of-concepts (POC) into business-as-usual (BAU).
Providing systems knowledge and assistance to the rest of the IT team through collaboration and maintaining comprehensive, up-to-date documentation regarding systems and services within the post holder's areas of responsibility.
Essential requirements:
Working experience with Linux servers (Redhat/Centos/Ubuntu)
Working experience of Git or equivalent code repository platform
Working experience in fault and performance debugging, diagnostics and remediation
Experience with setting up Databases on MySQL / MariaDB and or Sybase
Experience with Database tuning
Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to collate and present information clearly and succinctly
Degree qualified in relevant IT subject or equivalent work experience
Experience with KEMP Load balancers and/or equivalent Load balancing technology
Experience with Docker and/or other containerization platform
Desirable skills and experience
Knowledge of or interest in botany and/or biodiversity informatics
ITIL foundation certified
Linux certifications
HPC related software knowledge: xCAT, Prometheus, Grafana
Knowledge of maintenance and configuration of Sybase
Experience with Ansible IT automation and configuration management
End user experience with VMware
