Data is changing the way we protect London, and helping the Met to be more effective. As a System Administrator in our Data Office, your work will help us perform at our best and keep the capital safe.
The Met is increasingly data-driven, with a well-established Data Office. Your task, as a System Administrator, will be to keep vital tech running smoothly by maintaining, upgrading and managing software and servers.
Day to day, you'll analyse and correct IT issues as they occur, perform scheduled maintenance and build new machines. You'll also manage Microsoft Windows servers and Active Directory, adding new users and applying security models.
SQL database administration a key part of the role, and we'll be looking to you for SQL back-up, recovery and security, and the management of SQL Server databases through product lifecycles, from development to production. Tableau Server is also one of our systems, and we'll need your help with software updates and adding new users.
At this level, you'll need proven experience in a similar role. You should have managed Microsoft Windows Server and Microsoft Domain administration, and maintained both hardware and software licence lists and registers. With this background, you'll be able to set up accounts, computers and software for new starters, drawing on knowledge of group administration and Active Directory. A good teamworker, you know how to build relationships.

Job Summary
As a System Administrator within the Data Office, you will be responsible for maintaining, upgrading and managing the software and servers on our domain. This will include analysing and correcting IT issues as they occur, performing scheduled maintenance, building new machines and management of Microsoft Windows Servers and Active Directory including adding new users and applying security models.
This role encompasses SQL database administration and so you will also be responsible for SQL data backup, recovery and security and managing SQL Server databases through product life cycle environments from development to production.
We use Tableau Server to host the dashboards we produce and so there is also a requirement for the system administrator to support how we use this system by adding and removing users and applying new software updates.
