Job Title: Lead Engineer

Location: Edinburgh city (Port Hamilton). Please only apply if your able to work from 2 to 3 days per week in this location post COVID, depending on the week. We also offer flexible working patterns for example flexible start and finish times or compressed hours!

Salary & Benefits: £70, 080 - £87, 600 base salary, plus annual personal bonus, 15% employer pension contribution, 4% flexible cash pot, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays and access to various staff discounts.

 

Our mission

Through our Scottish Widows Corporate Pensions proposition we provide a wide range of services directly to Companies (Employers) to enable employees to plan financially for their future. Within our Employer team we're looking for a Senior Engineer to lead a cross-discipline team to enable the further enhancement of our customer products which are accessible through both digital and telephony channels. Working with the Product Owner you'll be responsible for the development and implementation of software solutions developed in-house whilst also working with third parties where we have partnered with others to build solutions.

Seeking to maximise customer value you'll be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of solutions helping over time to drive towards a target architecture whilst also improve the quality of engineering through use of best practice.

About the role

As a Lead multi-skilled Engineer (with software experience) you'll demonstrate a desire to develop your skills and experience, build space to learn and collaborate, demonstrate resilience and flexibility, confidence, and a desire to innovate and test new ideas. You'll understand, embrace and be able to select with confidence the most appropriate tools and methods to drive efficiency. You'll also strive to build relationships across role communities, change teams and business areas to improve opportunities for continuous improvement through shared learnings. Mentoring others across the team to achieve delivery excellence is also a key part of the role.

Acting in conjunction with the Product Owner, and where relevant Project Manager, you'll deliver the highest quality customer driven solutions whilst continually challenging, motivating, mentoring, and supporting colleagues.

So, what would you be doing in this role:

Accountable for our Corporate Pensions Employer solutions

Empowered to lead a multi-disciplined engineering team to achieve our customer led objectives and key results

Responsible for the full software delivery lifecycle, strategic shaping through to software deployment, supporting both change & run

Coordinating infrastructure solutions & delivery and ensuring engineering best practices are adopted

Team leadership and development

What we need from you:

During your career you'll have become multi-skilled having performed different roles across the change delivery lifecycle which may include architecture, analysis, testing, third party management and project management among other fields.

As an experienced engineer you would have developed applications whilst also gaining knowledge and experience across several different software and infrastructure technologies.

Strong technical background in software development supporting both product & project delivery

Keen to development and adopt the latest tools, techniques & practices

Good interpersonal skills and communication skills

Delivery approach and capable of solving issues

Great teammate
