DfE is looking to recruit 6 Cloud Engineers, in either Coventry, Darlington, Manchester Nottingham, Sheffield. Summary These are exciting times at the Department for Education (DfE) where we are looking for talented people to help mature our Azure cloud platform. DfE has migrated 98% of its infrastructure into the cloud and we are embarking on the next part of our journey to mature the way we work within our cloud platform. You will be part of a supportive and active Cloud Engineering team, where you will be given the opportunity to continue to grow your skills working with Delivery Managers, Cloud Architects, and other experts across the Digital and Technology Directorate. Job description
You will be working in a user-centred agile environment, delivering improvements to modernise how cloud resources are deployed and managed. You will remove legacy ways of working and provide solution architectures to enable cloud users to work in a consistent manner. The role will report to the Cloud Engineering Lead where you will deliver initiatives to help mature our cloud platform. You can read more about DfE's digital and technology strategy in this post.
Responsibilities
As a Cloud Engineer for DfE, you will: Transform technical requirements into automated processes using modern standards approaches such as Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
Act as an advocate of cloud computing including Software as a Service (SaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) so that the DfE and its partners can embrace the Government's Cloud First policy.
Identify and resolve issues preventing delivery.
Create and sustain modern deployment and management standards, practices, and techniques for our cloud resources.
Support, coach, and mentor less experienced Cloud Engineers.
Advocate user-centric, agile approaches which focus on rapid, effective delivery of high-quality digital services.
Selection Criteria It is essential that you demonstrate the following skills and experience: Demonstrable experience in supporting Azure cloud-native solutions and developing scripts using Azure PowerShell.
Competent in using the Azure management console.
Experience of implementing, administering and supporting infrastructure technologies and services such as: computing, storage, networking Azure Active Directory, virtual networks, NSGs, subnets and Express Route.
Demonstrable experience working in an agile environment.
Understanding of build and release (CI/CD) processes. The following skills and experience are desirable: Demonstrable experience in designing and deploying resources using infrastructure as code (IaC) through Azure DevOps pipelines (CI/CD) and ARM templates.
Demonstrable experience working at the Azure tenancy level, such as configuring management group structures and deploying Azure policies.
Demonstrable knowledge and experience of troubleshooting solutions consuming various Azure services. Desirable criteria will only be assessed in the event of a tie break situation to make an informed decision.
