The DBA Team is responsible for managing, supporting and upgrading all the Oracle Databases and Oracle Fusion Middleware software.

The DBA Team's Oracle capability provides whole lifecycle engineering for all changes, both in terms of enhancing current functionality and providing corrective maintenance fixes and supports application use in the wider user space.

This role is to manage the Apps DBA Team to ensure that Service Delivery levels are met and that Project commitments are managed. To take responsibility for the delivery of a wide range of database administration assignments, meeting customer satisfaction and terms of reference

Level Descriptor:

Individuals have a direct influence on profitability either as managers or as experts in a particular field. The field can relate to a variety of areas such as knowledge of a particular industry, technology, product, profession or skills area such as sales, account management or purchasing. Individuals could be contributors with specialist expertise or responsibility for the management of others. Roles at this level will typically be responsible for the provision of advice on policy implementation through such activities as scenario planning or resource modeling to inform strategic choices in decision making. The consequences of decision making would be operationally focused within a strategic framework.

Position Accountabilities:

*To ensure that Service Levels are met from a database perspective

*To support the Service Delivery Managers with any major incidents, escalations, investigations or root cause analysis

*To ensure that the data management component of the solutions being proposed is technically sound, is capable of being provided within budget and is capable of supporting the applications which are using it.

*To maintain and develop a high level of knowledge, skills and competencies in a range of database specialisms.

*To provide technical direction to delivery teams to ensure the data management components of systems meet their design specifications and service targets.

*To ensure Incidents are being responded to within contracted timescales

*To manage the assignment of work tasks within the team

*To attend the daily Operational Control Board meeting to provide or take note of any operational issues

*To represent the DBA team at team, project and release meetings

*To report on successes, opportunities, failures, threats and escalations to the Apps Lead on a weekly basis

*To report on progress, issues, risks and escalations to appropriate project managers in accordance with project or programme communication plans

*To conduct Performance Appraisal Assessments and Objective setting for all team members

*To liaise with and support other Account teams, Capability and Process Leads as necessary

*To support Project Managers as necessary, providing advice and guidance, and contribute to planning, estimating and operational acceptance activities

*To review high level design documentation

*To peer review technical solutions

*To approve team Release Control Board submissions

*To approve weekly staff timesheets, and ensure time is booked accurately

*To approve flexi-time and overtime requests

*To assist with resourcing requirements, recruiting activities and on-boarding new staff

*To ensure that appropriate software configuration management processes are implemented for database administration configurable items.

*To review DBA processes and activities and identify service improvements

*To provide specialist coaching and guidance internally and to the customer.

*To identify and manage risk in his/her business activities and take responsibility for reporting risks in a timely, open and appropriate manner

Position Specifications (Knowledge, Skill and Experience):

*The Database Administrator Team Leader will have expert knowledge of the latest developments for their technology area. Expert knowledge and experience of associated tools, techniques and methods within their specialist area.

*Demonstrable experience of working as a Lead or Senior Database Administrator on large or complex delivery programmes / projects.

*Leadership and management experience of a medium sized DBA team

*Demonstrable Technical Knowledge to be able to articulate the implications of database related technology changes on the business and service levels, and to support the DBA team with the delivery of services and implementation of change activities.

*Experience with database implementation, conversion and cutover plans

*Experience of writing and reviewing technical and operational documentation

*Good understanding of Service Definition a) Planning knowledge transfer b) Understand and implement service level/targets c) Metrics definition d) Define support procedures e) Detail the service, scope and baseline f) Communication planning

*Good understanding of Service Delivery a) Log and allocate queries b) Investigate and analyse problems and queries c) Identify and recommend possible solutions d) Prioritise and action problem resolution e) Identify opportunities for preventive maintenance f) Monitor service against service level agreements g) Produce and analyse metrics

*Good understanding of Operational ITIL processes including: a) Infrastructure support b) Problem management c) Inventory management d) Request management e) Change management f) Configuration management g) Demand management

*An understanding of Project Management approaches including Agile would be desirable

*An understanding of Risk Management would be desirable

Occasional travel to Gosport required
