Are you committed to helping us regulate health and social care within England?

We are looking for individuals who are caring, demonstrate integrity, work well as part of a team and always strive for excellence in everything they do. Help us make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage care services to improve.

Let us tell you a little bit about the role....

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is transforming how it designs and delivers digital services, building capacity across the organisation for better service delivery.

We have a fantastic team of passionate and creative individuals who are integral to achieving this ambition, ensuring we deliver change that adds value and creates an outstanding experience for the people who use our services.

Our portfolio is diverse in nature and offers some incredibly exciting opportunities to get involved in work that is truly innovative and forward thinking.

We're making CQCs services and information simpler, clearer and faster for our providers, inspectors and the wider public. To support this important mission, we are looking for an Interaction Designer to design accessible services that are simple enough for everyone to use.

What we're looking for from you...

You will be passionate about building the foundation for how we work in future, using digital platforms to enable us to become a flexible and insight-driven regulator, and to understand how people experience care across an area.

You'll work out the best way to let users interact with services, using agile ways of working to research, prototype and incubate products, testing them to gather data on what could work for our users.

You will be excited by the challenge of creating digital services that work across multiple channels, devices, browsers and platforms, seeing the bigger picture as well as the fine detail.

You will know how to design in an agile environment and want to help CQC transform the way it delivers services, so that they are simpler, faster and easier to use.

You will also engage with our design community, sharing your skills, knowledge and experience with others across CQC and the wider health and social care sectors.

Accountabilities:

  • Understand how to design services that meet user needs
  • Design user-centred interfaces and transaction flows, taking complex information and processes, and making them simple to understand and use
  • Create and iterate prototypes to test and communicate ideas, using prototyping tools and HTML/CSS for high-fidelity design
  • Ensure that accessibility and usability are built into designs from the outset, and delivering high quality finished designs that meet web standards and design principles
  • Build collaborative relationships and work effectively within an agile environment with colleagues
  • Explain design decisions and communicate credibly with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Welcome constructive criticism of your work and constructively review the work of others across CQC
  • Actively participating in the design community in CQC and across government, learning, sharing and applying skills and knowledge to improve, and being an advocate for design in CQC

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience designing accessible interactive digital products or services that meet user needs - you will need to show evidence of this as part of your application by including links to interaction design portfolio/examples in your statement of suitability
  • Core design skills of sketching and prototyping including through rapid prototyping tools and HTML and CSS
  • Solid understanding of interaction design methods and practice, with proven experience using data and user feedback to improve services
  • Have experience of working with multidisciplinary agile teams in complex environments
  • Experience of working with design systems, pattern libraries and style guides
  • Strong skills in communicating design decisions; convincing people that user needs and a user-centred approach are the right way to design products and services
  • Understanding of the GOV.UK Service Standards and design principles
  • Experience of supporting team members and colleagues in the design process and supporting communities of practice
