Premier Group are currently engaged with a large established client in the Birmingham area, who require a Core Fiber Designer on an initial 6 Month contract to play an integral role in the Optical Design & Delivery Team working on key client accounts within their Professional Services business unit.
The successful Core Fiber Designer will provide design documentation in support of various UK wide projects for a key client.
Core Fiber Designer - Activities:
Provisioning and delivery of fibre pair(s) between ‘end points’ for dark fibre services or Client internal requirements over the Client owned Core fibre optic network. The ‘end points’ could be at a client site or their customer site, or an external fibre interconnect with the Client’s Access Network, their customer or a 3rd party fibre provider; these interconnect points would need to be determined as part of the design process.Reconfiguration/ diversion of Client owned Core fibre optic network as part of site exit works on behalf of the Client.
Core Fiber Designer - Key Responsibilities
Agree, capture, and review client requirements and decide most suitable design solution using industry knowledge, client records and support/ engineering and design standards documentation, and site audit information.Produce high level design and costing information.Produce audit packs for technical field engineering team to undertake audits of sites and external optical network to capture information required to enable detail design to be produced accurately and Right First Time.Engage and liaise with Client Access planners for cable overlay, construction or new civils/cabling identified.Execute and deliver detailed fibre designs, including the provision of detailed Bills of Materials, method statements and technical documentation required for safe installation and commissioning activities.Highlight and escalate major design variances.Acceptance of fibres based on test results provided or highlight discrepancies against Client specifications and advise on remedial action.Produce as-built documentation and maintain client records using various software tools.Ensure accurate and timely completion of all planned submissions.Attend and contribute to external client and internal team meetings and discussions Adhere to internal and external, regulatory, operational and compliance procedures Adhere to the Network Services Health and safety policy.
Core Fiber Designer - Technical Skills
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar roleExcellent understanding of fibre optic networks principles and components and ability to interpret fibre characterisation results (including ILM, OTDR, CD & PMD).Knowledge of GIS systemsGood H&S awareness to ensure Design and Work Instructions start with safety as top priority.Knowledge of GComms, Force & Fulcrum software toolsProficient user of MS Visio.
