About the role:

As the technical expert you will work closely with academics to identify changing requirements and advances in technology. In this highly collaborative role, you will proactively engage with working groups and committees to ensure our facilities are both maintained and always at the cutting edge, to ensure our ambitious teaching and research objectives can be met.

You will provide insightful solutions, guidance and highly specialist support for teaching, research, and day-to-day operational troubleshooting. You will be designing and testing/calibrating software or writing code to optimise platforms along with building and ordering hardware to meet specific needs. You will be working with libraries relating to virtualisation, cloud, GPU, visual computing/graphics, web and IoT systems.

About you:

You will have in-depth knowledge and experience of a Computer Science field; designing, coding, and implementing platforms in a variety of libraries and languages through the use of software development and system administration. You will be efficient, proactive, approachable, and meticulous by nature with an ability to bring understanding/clarity to complex challenges and provide solutions-based approaches.

You will also have:

  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • A desire to investigate issues and be ahead of technological advancements.
  • An awareness of security and compliance considerations in the field.
  • In-depth knowledge of Linux administration.
  • Experience of Docker and other container/virtualisation systems.
  • Experience of writing custom code to maintain the above in a programming language such as Python, C/C++, Java.
  • The ability to design and maintain a heterogeneous (CPU & GPU) computer resource that need to be customisable by a variety users.
  • Experience of working with GPUs (e.g. OpenCL/CUDA, TensorFlow, PyTorch).
